The only dubbed things I can tolerate are cartoons because they could be in any language (and the voices are daft even in the originals). I'm sceptical about the use of dubbed programming, they can sound quite unnatural. However if folk here say they've used it to successfully to transition to native content then so be it, it's worth trying.

I tried it in Spanish and decided it was probably easier to just watch native content at max 15-30 minutes to start. I do actually keep the subs on for things like films, but I've learned to ignore them and only glance down when I think I've missed something crucial.

There's so much available online now I wouldn't pay for a subscription to anything. I don't even have a TV anyway.

You can create the dubbed (translated)version yourself in DeepL quality

https://www.rtve.es/infantil/noticias/q ... 8786.shtml

https://www.rtve.es/infantil/serie/apre ... o/6251181/

download here
http://www.descargavideos.tv/

https://subtitlestranslator.com/ translate with DeepL (so I think)

-------
play both or separately subtitles and translation with

-SMPlayer or
-LingoPlayer: https://oaprograms.github.io/lingo-player/
this is a forerunner of LanguageReactor, stripped of some functions, but still has line advance and stop/play with a mouse click

I 100% agree about no subs. We already know you know how to read French Carmody! Now you need to learn how to hear French. You can occasionally check your understanding of a crucial scene with the subs, but the default should absolutely be no subs.
Gulp! Me thinks you are right.

So I am getting ready for my New Year's Resolutions, the top of the list being to listen to
50 to 100 hrs. of French=No Subtitles. I actually feel like I am jumping off a cliff........

So I need to find the programs and movies, etc. on Netflix that you think I should watch.
Dix Pour Cent is at the top of my list but I need other ideas for specific titles.

I have found that I can waste a very large amount of time just looking, so I am hoping to follow your guidance and watch Anything you suggest would be good.I want to establish my Watch List and have it in place so when I log my Hours of Watching, it is not confused with just looking around.

I prefer to stay away from the News programs, crime, detective, and killing shows.

Thanks for the help.

Do you have any French listening experience at all? How would you rate your listening on the CEFR scale? Dix pour cent is *such* a good show, but it wouldn’t be the best place for a beginner to start. I would try to find a sitcom. Something with a lot of episodes. Jane the Virgin? Community? The New Girl?

Well, Duolingo classifies me as B1 in all my skill sets, but we all know that they are Very generous in assessments, so I don't believe them.

But I have so far compiled 5 pages of sources for French input that greatly interest me and I hope I can just hang in there. The list has documentaries on nature and history both of which I love. Sit coms somehow pass me by.

The list is a wide variety of sources that keep me interested but none of it is Netflix and I sense it has a lot that I could use but don't know how to access. That is why I ask for help.

I understand you love documentaries and have no interest in sitcoms. But documentaries won’t get you past B1, and sitcoms are where you learn to understand people having conversations in French. You need to find a show you won’t hate so you can put the hours in and someday be able to watch Dix pour cent. Or just watch Dix pour cent with English subtitles today.

I'd start with series that have relatively short episodes: Plan Coeur, Au service de la France, Lupin. First I'd use French subtitles, to connect the sound with the written form. If you really like something, you can watch it twice or even three times. First without subtitles, and the second time with subtitles or the other way around. Later I'd move on to shows with longer episodes (Dix pour cent), and switch off the subtitle progressively. But any strategy can be good and effective, you have to see for yourself what works for you. My experience is that I needed an insane number of hours to get to my current level in Spanish. So the most important thing is to choose something you like and can be hooked on. For example I watched all the 90-minute episodes of El Internado twice. It has 7 seasons. Watch what you like and enjoy, no matter if it's on Netflix or somewhere else. If you don't enjoy a show, you won't pay attention to it. InnerFrench is a very good place to start. Just keep doing it. If you don't like something, stop it, and start something else.

Thank you one and all for your very thoughtful and speedy responses; you have been very helpful.

Please note that when I take the plunge on this New Year's Resolution January 1st, I will be giving regular updates in my Log postings. Hopefully, that will keep me honest and over the period of 50-100 hours I will be the wiser for my commitment to a serious regimen.

I am also setting up a separate spreadsheet when I do start to quantify: time spent, source used, and my sense of the comprehension of the material.

In the meantime, please, anyone feel free to give advice and make program suggestions for Netflix or otherwise. I am trying to do the groundwork to identify shows now so as not to waste time looking for them after my start date on January 1st.
