It is my pleasure to share with you guys a great quantity of resources from the archive site HathiTrust. The HathiTrust Digital Library "preserves and provides lawful access to the 17+ million digitized items". In the following posts, I've listed many works I believe will be of interest to many of the language learners on this forum.
Many of these works are public domain in the United States only. Those I believe to be public domain everywhere have been marked with an asterisk.
Materials which I have included in the following posts:
- Most courses and books written after 1940
- Most readers written after 1930
- Dictionaries, glossaries, and vocabulary lists, even those only going one direction
- Review and reference materials
Reasons why I didn't include certain works include poor scan quality, too short, or were written for children. I also didn't list FSI, DLI, or other government materials unless I was sure it wasn't listed on sites like Yojik. Similarly Cortina and "Spoken Language" series courses aren't listed.
Some general considerations regarding posted materials:
- None of the courses include audio and most don't include answer keys
- Materials listed as grammars are often grammar courses
- Materials range from somewhat anachronistic to severely anachronistic. Use accordingly and when in doubt, ask your teacher or leave a question here regarding any possible problems
- Materials cannot be downloaded unless by chance one has an institutional login
- Included are many dictionaries and glossaries in this list because they are easily searched on the website
- Some books were scanned in such a way that a blank page is inserted between two book pages. No pages are presumably missing, though
If you find additional materials or have any comments on existing material, please leave them below. I won't be on much throughout the holidays but will definitely respond shortly after the New Year. People who manage resources in various languages are encouraged to integrate resources from these posts.
To everyone that celebrates Christmas, Merry Christmas! To everyone else, Happy Holidays! And everyone, best of luck in the New Year!
Warm Regards,
IntrepidLearner
