(Although, I understand, this tool uses the FSI table, which was made for Americans, still...).

True. There is a contact page for the programmer on the site, might be worth contacting them and letting them know.

I had a look and noticed that after selecting "Current level", I couldn't select "Desired level" (it was locked) - and as it happens, my "desired" level was lower than my current level.

That happened to me also, I couldn't change desired level if current level was anything except beginner.

If you set the Current Level back to not choosing one, populate the second one (Desired Level) and then go back and change the Current Level to whatever yours is it will work. I can't speak to the accuracy of the results when doing that though.

I'm not sure if I understood the parameters correctly, but just as an example, I put that I wanted to learn Dutch, from A0 to C2, self-taught one or more languages to fluency, moderate motivation, 3-5 weekly study sessions, moderate motivation, 2 hours a day, and got an estimate of 1 year, 8 months, and 29 days.

Even if we round that to 2 years, really? 2 years to reach C2 level? Is Dutch really that easy? I guess it might be possible if you know German (as I do), but still, that is pretty surprising.

Wow. Assume someone takes your example, chooses some material + method, doesn't reach their target level in the estimated time and then posts their backstory and the finishing question: "What am I doing wrong?"

The horror.

That was fun! Thanks to the OP for the link.

I used the same options for three different levels of French and these are the results:
B1 to B2: 10 months
B2 to C1: 12 months
C1 to C2: 1 year + 1 month

That's based on 1 1/2 hrs of study 2-3x daily, inexperienced learner and moderately motivated. For fun, I'm going to put a notification in my calendar for November 14 to see if I'm at B2 then. It won't be official because I won't be taking a test, but I think I'll be able to judge. Ha! Famous last words.

The calculator was pretty accurate for me and Korean.

Sadly, it estimates 1 year, 4 months, 2 days to get where I want to go, which is low advanced.

But if I started French from scratch, today, I could get to the upper advanced level in far less time than that!
That seems weird to me given I feel like I finally have a good foundation in Korean and know how to learn it. I will be happy to try to prove the calculator wrong. Ha.

I'm trying to convince my wife to learn French with me... can it really be that easy! (edit I mean "quickly achieved" as no language is "easy", that's for sure)

Well, Friends, I'm new to this forum but know how to learn a language. Thank you for sharing this link. I've tried this Study Time Calculator but didn't find it much accurate or can say somewhat correct to a certain extent because according to my thinking, learning a new language entirely depends on individual efforts and time they invest in understanding the nuances of a particular language on a daily basis. You cannot bind yourself to a particular time span and declare that you're a master of a specific language. No, I don't think that way and that is totally my personal opinion it may vary from person to person.
