One of the surprises is how much my wife loves me studying Tagalog. If I did Cebuano, her L1, I bet she would be over the moon.
A happy wife is a good thing
Oo mas importante ang asawa nga malipayon.
I can't decide if I made a mistake in going for Cebuano first. Less materials, but I kind of know it now and wouldn't risk interference with Tagalog yet.
Pinoys we know in the UK are a mix of different language speakers, so several languages in a group conversation, but quite a few Bisaya (including Mindanao) speakers.
If you ever decide to do some Cebuano, send me a message.
Best things I've found are a Mormon grammar, one Cebuano teacher (not yet booked), one or two Guttenberg / Librivox books and a shedload of memrise courses featuring very bukid (country, province, old fashioned) language from the 1930s. I'd also probbaly try to write on reddit or http://www.binisaya.com/
I'm concentrating on Spanish, but when I restart Cebuano, I'll do the Grammar, readlang (private as no Ceb) of youtube song videos with lyrics.
