I have been following with keen interest your posts concerning the textbook "Modern Spanish: A Project of the Modern Language Association" and the course supplement manual "Dialogs for Modern Spanish: A project of the Modern Language Association". Copies of the former are still available on Amazon and AbeBooks; however, I have not been able to locate a copy of the latter.

As to the possibility of locating the audio recordings, as it happens, I sent an Email to the Modern Language Association late last week asking them if they might have copies of the recordings for the "A-LM" series and they replied that, if they did, the tapes would have been stored somewhere off-site; furthermore that they did not have the equipment either to play them or to convert them to some other medium. While they did not seem particularly enthused at the idea of recovering these materials, I offered to purchase them, digitize them, and donate a copy of the digitized files for conservation in their archives. I have not yet heard back from them. However, should I be able to pry loose a few of the "A-LM" tapes, I will submit a subsequent request for the "Modern Spanish: A Project of the Modern Language Association" audio files as well. Of course, you are at liberty to contact them yourself. LINK: ( https://www.mla.org/ )

Thank you for your interest! Subsequent to the above posts, I had an interesting exchange of Emails with the staff of the MLA Archives Section and I opened a separate discussion thread entitled "Modern Foreign Language Association (MLA)" wherein I posted a redacted portion of the Emails. At their request, the separate discussion thread was deleted from this forum. Nonetheless, I believe that it would be reasonable to report that the MLA advised me at the time, "the archives are undergoing a revitalization process that will improve access to the MLA's collections." My understanding was that the revitalization process had not yet been completed and the MLA staff did not want to be drawn into premature discussions with members of public as to the contents of the archives, or as to matters of access, et cetera. I have "moved on" to other projects and I do not intend revisiting this file.

Lists of Audio-Lingual Materials
This discussion thread, and the contributions that so many members have made to it, have served as something of an education for me. In addition, it has provided momentum for, and helped me focus on, my own searches of audio-lingual method course materials. As it happens, in the period when this method of teaching was popular, there were far more offerings from American publishers than I had previously imagined! The primary source that I used for a list of audio-lingual courses was the ERIC website and I have appended below links to a number lists of materials that were prepared in the 1960’s and 1970’s. Please note that, in numerous cases, I have abbreviated the full document titles. In addition, in cases where an ERIC document treats more than one language, I have included it under each of the individual sub-groups.

German

https://eric.ed.gov/?q=Audio-Lingual+Program+Materials&pg=5&id=ED033631

German: Verstehen und Sprechen, Sprechen und Lesen, et cetera
Using the above information, I tracked down a number of German course materials, the most notable of which (putting the A-LM series aside for the moment), would be the four-volume series authored by Rehder, Thomas, Twaddell, O'Connor, published by Holt, Rinehart, Winston as Verstehen und Sprechen, Sprechen und Lesen, et cetera which I found to be remarkably similar to the A-LM series in scope if not somewhat superior.

Availability of Materials
Many of the course books are still available via Amazon, AbeBooks, Alibris, eBay and similar websites. Although I have added a number of books to my collection of vintage materials, I have had only limited success in acquiring the corresponding audio recordings without which I would classify most of the textbooks as “for connoisseurs only.”

Any recommendations for Arabic audio-lingual programmes? Specifically for either Modern Standard Arabic or the Egyptian Dialect?

I've come across the following:

FSI Arabic
https://www.livelingua.com/project/fsi/Arabic/#*
MSA and Levantine
Also includes a "comparative study" of Levantine and Egyptian Arabic

Spoken Languages Services
Iraqi and Saudi dialects
http://pro.spidergraphics.com/spo/spo_S ... 4C586CE28F

Defense Language Institute
https://www.livelingua.com/dli-language-courses.php
MSA, Egyptian, Iraqi and Syrian

I've also heard about Langenscheidt Arabisch Mit System which has the texts in MSA and Syrian and Egyptian dialects, but I can't confirm one way or another that it is an audio-lingual programme.
https://www.langenscheidt.de/Langensche ... 68-80354-3
As there are three CDs only, I would guess that it either isn't fully audio-lingual, or else it is only introductory.

Any other suggestions?

Japanese Language Patterns by Anthony Alfonso

On forum.koohii.com someone remarked that there's a "a matching set of 74 one-hour cassettes": http://forum.koohii.com/thread-5619-pos ... #pid100412

I already identified a library 500 km from where I live that appears to have the entire set. Looks like I'll embark on a weekend trip soon. :D I'm obviously mad.

For more details and a synopsis follow the link to "252 Japanese Language Books": http://www.trussel.com/jap/jbooks01.htm#166

In case anyone cares if anything came out if it, it turned out that the library had thrown away the cassettes without updating their catalogue.

Did you find this out before or after driving 500km?

There was no need to go there in person after all. I was told on the phone that I could just make an interlibrary loan request, which I did, but when they tried to fulfill the request, they noticed that they no longer had the cassettes...

Introductory Russian Grammar, 2nd edition
I have opened a separate discussion thread of the textbook “Introductory Russian Grammar, 2nd edition” which employs a combined grammar and audio-lingual approach to teaching. https://forum.language-learners.org/viewtopic.php?f=19&p=75423#p75423

I found another audio-lingual course for Modern Standard Arabic published in the late seventies:

Lehrgang für die arabische Schriftsprache der Gegenwart by Wolfdietrich Fischer

I don't have the recordings (only the book) but they can still be ordered online.

New Audio-Lingual (Guided Imitation) Language Course
In the mid-to-late 1970’s, the audio-lingual method was gradually abandoned in in favour of other methods of language instruction. Since that time, the publication of new works in the genre has become an increasingly rare event. For this reason, I have opened a separate discussion thread covering the recently-published "Dr. Brians Languages" as follows:
