Seeking: Android app that tracks mp3 listening time

Postby Bex » Tue Jan 28, 2020 3:26 pm

I use a podcast player that automatically logs my listening time and I would like to do the same with the MP3´s I listen to. I almost always listen via my Android phone so I need an app for that ;)

If not an app... is there a website where I could upload my mp3´s, create a playlist and then see statistics for how long I have been listening? LingQ is an option at the moment but that would be a very expensive workaround. I´d prefer an android app to a website but the statistics are the thing I am really looking for.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Since podcasts are almost always MP3's can't you use the podcast player you're already using? Worst case scenario you setup a website in your home with an RSS feed and just load all your MP3's as a "Podcast"

You would think so wouldn't you but it appears I can't get to the files with my current podcast player.

However I downloaded another podcast player which has stats, since you suggested it might be possible on a podcast player and on this one I can select the files containing my mp3's....which is excellent so thank you for the suggestion.

I use the free version of Podcast Addict as my podcast app. This app tracks listener statistics globally and for each podcast, however it does not allow you to set parameters. So, for example, I can see that since I started listening to NHK again sometime in December, I have listened to 17 hours of NHK Radio News in Japanese, but I cannot see which days my listening fell on.

As a language learner, this app has several other desirable features to me, most especially ability to filter languages so I see search results in any of my target languages, see trending shows in any of my target languages, modify podcast speed at the level of individual podcasts (so I listen to English shows at 2x speed, creating more time for foreign language shows, while still allowing breaks in English)

Edit: Forgot to add that this app allows import of MP3 files.

thanks for mentioning this it looks perfect.

I've downloaded it but I can't seem to be able to import anything....it shows all my folders as empty (obviously they aren't), I wondered if iimporting works ok for you? Maybe it's just my phone :(

I'm not sure how to get it to work using the import feature within the app, but when I've had an MP3 file before, I've been able to use "open with" and open the file in podcast addict. Sorry, I don't listen to enough MP3s to give better advice than that.
