For people interested in East Asian languages, I recently saw a reference to a Masters' thesis by a purported NATIVE speaker of Manchu who grew up in the United States, which is a textbook aimed at teaching Manchu as a spoken language:
Robert William Autry: Manju Tacire: Learning Manchu, An Introduction to the Manchus and Their Language
The writer's language background at a minimum seems very unusual, but his thesis was accepted by the linguistics department of the University of Arizona, so what can I say?
