Tagalog Lite - a new free grammar course from Language Tools

Postby leosmith » Wed Nov 13, 2019 2:33 pm

Dear Tagalog learners,
I am pleased to announce Tagalog Grammar Lite, a new free Tagalog Grammar course available now at Language Tools. It can be found here: https://languagecrush.com/tagalog-lite

(If you are a Language Tools member learning Tagalog, the link to the book will show up on your dashboard too)

I have spent close to 1000 hours working on this using many resources and getting corrections from native speakers, and I believe it’s the best Tagalog grammar course available. But if you don’t think it’s the best, or if you can suggest improvements, I’d like your input. At the bottom of each page there is a “offer corrections” button. You will be taken to a plain text version of the lesson, where you can suggest corrections by typing directly over the lesson text, or by leaving a comment.

Because I’m looking for more input and haven’t had an editor go through this yet, the book is in beta. After a year or so I plan on taking the corrections and publishing Edition 1 on Amazon. I will update the online version too, and it will always be free, with the Amazon version available for purchase for those who want a paper or kindle copy, or who merely want to support the course. (Like all Language Tools products, any profits from the book will be used to fund a school we are building for the Maasai in Tanzania, Africa.)

Mabuhay!

(edit - swapped out book 1 with book 3; see latest post for details)

Hi all, I'm working on the First edition now (upgrading from the Beta edition) and I would like advanced learners of Tagalog (not native speakers; non-native adult learners) to get familiar with the course and take a survey. I will pay a stipend for this. Please PM me if you're interested.

Wow, three years later...
Edition 1 is being uploaded to the site now. Actually, all the content is loaded now, but we are going to swap out many of the audio files because I was in Thailand when I commissioned them, my speakers were really bad, so I accepted some stuff I never should have. That will probably take a week or so. After that, I will create the optional anki decks. We are also going to build a new landing page.

Hi Everyone,
Just a quick note to let you know that Edition 1 of Tagalog Lite is finally released and available to use here for free. This edition is vastly improved. It is co-written by linguist MrGerbear (aka Gerard Avelino) of Reddit and other forum fame. We have incorporated all your input, including using the official pronunciation system. We have also designed the book on the colloquial language. Some grammar points that were in our Tagalog Conversations but not in the book got included, and other grammar points got fleshed out to reflect what native speakers actually use. If you would like to learn with the Grammar source that has the clearest explanations and doesn’t teach you a lot of stuff you won’t use, Tagalog Lite is for you.
Sincerely,
Leo
