Alternative to italki

Postby Flickserve » Thu Apr 04, 2019 12:54 am

What other platforms are there as an alternative italki?

I'm particularly interested in a feature that would allow shorter booking times and also ad hoc lessons due to a very unpredictable work schedule.

Italki used to have an instant tutoring feature but now it's been stopped. Any other platform with this feature?

Bookings for lessons also needed 24h advance booking. Do other platforms offer shorter booking times for booking in advance?

BTW the italki website is particularly slow to load with its present design which is quite annoying in this day and age. There's definitely scope to move to another platform.

Although I am not a frequent user of these types of services, I have noticed that some members have reported positive experiences with the following:

BuddySchool
First Tutors
Lingoda
Online Language Tutors
Preply
Skype
Verbal Planet
WyzAnt Tutoring

I am sure that there are several others covering any language you’d like including Klingon as well as numerous sites which specialize in specific languages. One has the impression that new tutoring services (or websites designed to connect prospective students with tutors in search of contracts) are cropping up all the time.

With the major disclaimer that I have not used Lingoda, I’m not sure it’s quite what would suit this forum. You can book private lessons but as I understand mostly it’s group lessons following a syllabus (which you can download). So has some definite advantages for some people but I have my reservations. I’m going to give it a shot in a month or two, so I will report back.
