Brilliant! I'm looking forward to hearing what you think of the audiobook. I imagine it adds a whole new level of authenticity to the narrative. :)

I'm settling down to read for a good half hour now, before cracking on with some overdue chores, and I'm really apprehensive about what might happen next :?

Ok, this book is making me feel somewhat uncomfortable and I actually got quite emotional at one point. Anyone else?

I just finished chapter 5 so I'm on page 130.

I'm only at chapter four. But you're making me nervous.

Sorry Stelle! It could just be me being oversensitive. Let me know what you think when you've finished that chapter.

Benvenuta! Mi fa piacere vedere una faccia nuova qui, e vedere una nuova persona che impara l'italiano mi fa ancor più piacere :)

Yesterday, when my internet stopped working in the late afternoon, I picked up my book and plowed through chapters 6, 7 and 8. Well, things were getting exciting and I just couldn't stop...

SPOILERS!!
There were more parts that made me feel uncomfortable, of course, but I've kinda come to expect them now. Seriously, anything to do with the insanity of Filippo (who is 9 years old!), probably caused by il vecchio etc. makes my blood boil. And Felice! Boy did he get what was coming to him after how he treated Michele.
End of spoilers

There was a bit in chapter 8 that really confused me. On page 183, Michele had decided that he was going to do something and he was riding on his bike. Then, on page 184, he was playing with his friends and there was no bike. I actually thought it was a printing error so can you tell me if you all have that issue too please?

I read this maybe 10 years ago and I don't remember anything giving me pause for thought in that way - then again I do sometimes miss a detail or two :-)

Sadly Oxford Central library (which is where I got the book) is effectively out of commission until late October, so I can't just grab it again and have a read. The online catalogue does suggest it is available at another local library that is about the same distance away, so maybe I can point my bike that way this Saturday ... assuming no-one else pipes up before then ...
