I'd love to pick up the second book right away too! But distance puts a crimp on things :/ oh, how I regret not buying all three of them when I was in Sweden last!

I think Rime's still got a long way to go. He's a Shadow, sure, but he's still charging about a bit like a bull in a china shop, to similar effect. I think I have a very good idea of what awaits Hirka on the other side, but I'm holding my tongue. Here's to simply hoping that when she does get back (not if!) Ymsland is still more or less in tact and Rime hasn't made a mess of things!

Also, did anyone else get a slight feel of the 'His Dark Materials' series, with the whole parting for the sake of the world(s)? I got a tiny trace, and now I feel like launching into that series (again). I have the second book on my shelf, in German... it is just calling to me!

The second book was really exciting. And full of plot twists.

Are we doing a new book? Either from this series or something completely different?

I think we should definitely do a new book! Something is best, although it would be nice to keep this thread open for the Raven Rings series.

I did promise Soffía the choice of the next book, as she was the only one in Team Nordic unable to join in this reading adventure, as Odinsbarn hasn't been translated into Icelandic. I felt that it was only fair that way.

I think I only have one that fits the bill: Skyggeporten. I don't remember when or why I added it to my list, so apologies if it's a book recommended or mentioned by you in the first place! It is apparently Young Adult (although the description seems a bit more like Middle Grade). Just from reading the description, I'd say it seems a bit like Coraline in its themes, which may have been what attracted me to it in the first place.

Not my time frame actually. As for daegga's recommendation, noted, he mentioned it as more dialect and nynorsk-like.

No dialect in that one, pure (somewhat old-fashioned) nynorsk.

Danish books:

Not sure what your taste is, but I am reading and liking Min Historie by Zilan B, the story of a young person who seeks asylum in Denmark.The back cover blurb calls it a work of fiction based on real events.


Skammerens Datter is a popular young adult fantasy novel. Not as good as Odinsbarn, but I thought it was a good read.
