I'll just add a second for Viltu læra íslensku on YT. It covers a lot of basic situations like greetings.. and hot tubs :)

I love being able to say no thanks when I am offered an English menu, even if the rest of the encounter has to be in English. I have food allergies, so learning menu words is a high priority of mine :)

I often search for some menus to study while I am still at home.

I've seen these and had forgotten about them! I do understand French so these are definitely an option for me. I think these books would be a good resource for some languages because they are more like phrasebooks.

Unfortunately I don't think we'll make it to Iceland this year because of the housing market... we are trying to buy a house during a housing bubble and it really sucks. :( But I'll come back to this thread when I visit my next non-anglophone/non-francophone country!

Translations of menus are usually unclear or approximate. Better study the right local expression before in order to know what's coming...
