Does anyone know the difference between наверх and вверх?
I've looked around the internet and asked a few Russians, and I haven't had much luck.
подниматься в лифте наверх
питца летит вверх
самолет летит вверх
посмотри вверх
протягивай руку вверх
I thought up some examples in hopes of finding a pattern, but I haven't had much success. I'm not even 100% sure if these are 100% correct.
Does anyone know the difference between наверх and вверх?

Did you read that explanation?
It seems that with наверх, there is a limit to the mouvement: once you've reached the top of the house, you can't go further up.
With вверх, there is no limit (but it doesn't work very well with your last exemple, except if you're Mister Fantastic )

That would certainly be a logical explanation! I asked one of my friends who previously wasn't sure, and he said that sounds like it could be right. I'm not sure if my examples are actually correct. I made them up on my own, so протягивай руку вверх could be wrong. I certainly hope it is

Did a quick google search and it seems that "протягивать руку вверх" is right. However, I reread their explanation again, and it doesn't seem to contradict it. They said "Наверх - движение на верхнюю часть чего-либо." Putting one's hand up does have a limit, but its still not really on the upper part of anything, unlike an elevator in a building. So I guess this would follow the rule, although somewhat awkwardly.
Thank you for the link

This is how I always mentalized them:
Now someone who actually knows Russian can tell me if I'm right at all...

That's a great illustration! Pretty easy to remember too. Matches the general meaning of на. I just showed it to my friend and they confirmed that it looks about right.

Yeah, that's essentially it: вверх is in a general upward direction, whereas наверх is towards a specific place that happens to be above the starting point.
