Where are the good Advanced Mandarin Textbooks / Practice Books???

Postby ajscarlett » Sun Sep 24, 2017 2:54 pm

Hi All, this is my first post on the new site!

I am around HSK 4 level Mandarin (simplified) and am currently reading graded readers, I have previously used Assimil Chinese and a book called "Intermediate Chinese" by Yong Ho, which had great short dialogues to practice with as well as some helpful grammar explanations and more complicated sentence structures to practice with.

Now these books are no longer challenging for me and I need to make sure I don't plateau.

Does anyone know of some great books in this style for a more advanced learner? Because after countless google and amazon searches I'm really struggling to find anything good beyond an intermediate level.

OR

Should I now change up my learning style now that I am at this level?

*these books are usually to supplement my learning in between speaking sessions with natives/teachers

Thanks for any tips in advance !!!

There aren't so many that I am aware of. At this level you should really start getting into native Chinese materials. Reading and listening will help a lot at the intermediate level. Those materials can also be used for class assignments. I have read literature for advanced language classes many times and it's only helped me.

Thanks, yeah maybe I should figure out how to practice and learn with the graded readers as well as just reading them, i.e writing about them, re-writing sentences in them and such, I'd just have to be more creative with it and make sure I get everything proof read and corrected after

GLOSS offers downloadable audio and transcripts plus activities in Mandarin. https://gloss.dliflc.edu/

You may also find this article useful. (I prefer WorkAudioBook to Audacity.)
