Learning English

Postby Василь » Wed Oct 18, 2023 3:07 pm

Hello, I am a native speaker of Russian, learning English. Now I'm taking duolingo. I study on my own. My level is more of a beginner. I want to ask the same learners of English. What resources do you use for learning: websites, apps, books, self-study books. What helped you and what didn't? Share your opinions. Thank you!

I learned English by myself despite the fact that I had English classes at school (but my teachers were terrible). I can definitely recommend the series of books called "English Grammar In Use" that are aimed at different levels (elementary, intermediate, advanced). Each chapter is composed of two parts - on one page there are grammar explanation, on the other the relevant exercises. I loved that format.
These books were crucial for my learning process and now, there are even similar series specifically for phrasal verbs, pronunciation or collocations - I wish they had been on the market back when I learned English!
