What are the best resources for German pronunciation

I really want to take my time to mastering German pronunciation. I learnt the hard way how difficult and painful it is to correct faulty pronunciation habits with French.

I am struggling to find a lot of resources geared towards German pronunciation. Pimsleur is helpful. There is Fluent Forever English->German Pronunciation Trainer. I know that Speechling has a section where I can submit recordings of me speaking German and getting it recorded.

I would appreciate any recommendations on resources that specialise in German pronunciation.

He really dives into it, sometimes analyzing an excerpt from a film or show and writing out sentences from the dialogue, explaining how different bits are reduced or pronounced differently depending on the background of the speaker.

David Allen Martin does a general contrastive analysis English-German with Nicos Weg here (only ten lessons). I think he studied comparative phonetics but I don't know of any complete phonetics course he offers. His German accent is flawless.

1. Regarding pronunciation, if you can wait 2 days I’ll have finished my German pronunciation tool, which will be free to use online. It will be similar to the one I did for Portuguese. You should still watch some YouTube videos and read some more thorough explanations for background, like these:

But after that, you can just use the tool for a few minutes per day, following the instructions, and it should be a really clean way to map the sounds to the alphabet in your brain.

You might want to update the pronunciation of all German words ending in "ig." For example, compare your version of König with Pons and Langenscheidt.

I know you are a native speaker, but this guy recommends it the way I have it for beginners, and the voice actor pronounced it that way without any prompting from me.

I have a question for you regarding the final e - she pronounces it differently depending on the word, at least to my ears. Are there any rules about this, or is it just regional/personal preference?

Most likely he recommended the /ɪk/ pronunciation instead of the standard /ɪç/ pronunciation, because many learners have problems mastering /ç/ and /x/. IMHO, that's not a good idea. He should have at least mentioned that /ɪç/ is the standard pronunciation.

Hopefully, you didn't pay her too much, because she's definitely not a trained voice actor. (Her pronunciation is acceptable, though.)
She might have pronounced "ig" as /ɪk/ either because she's from Southern Germany or Austria or she might have erroneously assumed that the /ɪç/ pronunciation is only acceptable in colloquial German and hyper-corrected it to /ɪk/. Maybe you have better ears than me because of your familiarity with tonal languages, but I could only hear slightly different flavors of /ə/.

If you toggle back and forth between Straße and Frage you will probably hear the difference I'm talking about. If either variation of those "different flavors of /ə/" is ok to use in any such case, I won't worry about it.
