How to use Glossika Massive Sentence method

Postby rdearman » Mon Mar 20, 2023 6:02 pm

I have some GSM files, 50 sentences each. Made with a script I found.

But how do you do GSM ?? Having never done this before, can someone enlighten me as to what the method is and what I should be doing with these sentences.

It depends on your familiarity with the language, but I've studied them using a "staggered" approach. Example given from say, day five.
1. Read sentences 201-250 and write notes of all new vocables and expressions.
2. Listen to the GMS A file for 151-200 (Eng-TL-TL), try to say the sentence out loud before the first TL, no worries if you can't, just say it in between the TLs.
3. Transcribe sentences 101-150 using the GMS C files in Audacity. Loop each sentence until you can transcribe it, preferably pen on paper.
4. Chorus each sentence (51-100) with the help of the GMS C file à la Olle Kjellin: loop each sentence for a LONG time, and practice saying it up to speed so that you can say it comfortably at least ten times, this takes anywhere between 20-100 of actual loops (note that although this sounds like a lot, each loop is only a couple of seconds, so at worst it's still like 3-4 minutes)

I'm reasonably proud of my results with this system. It is very time consuming but it goes through 1000 sentences in 20 days (if you do a headstart with the lighter days and do all of the first steps until you get to chorusing stage for sentences 1-50).

Just to confirm my understanding. Each day, you are using 3 sets of 50 sentences. Set one, is the newest set, and you're just listening to it on repeat and trying to pick out new vocabulary and take notes. Set two is from the previous day, and you're trying to say the sentences before the recording. Set three which is the oldest, you are doing transcription on these sentences?

So you're using 150 sentences each day, correct?

Sorry I was unclear, I meant to imply 200 sentences each day.
1. N+150 take notes
2. N+100 listen and say out loud
3. N+50 transcribe
4. N chorus

HOWEVER you can also skip step 2, it depends on your familiarity with the language I guess.

I have 3 directories of files:

  • GMS
  • GSP
  • GSR
So I can work out that GMS = Glossika Mass Sentences, and GSR = Glossika Spaced Repetition, but what is GSP ??
