Try deepl and your computer or android text to speech function if needed. Deepl is not too formal.

There are a lot of engines. Some of the best would cost you money to use. You might want to look at OpenTTS which will run on your home computer.

You want to translate a text and then have a device read it aloud? I'd use DeepL plus the text to speech built in to the Microsoft Edge browser. On Microsoft Edge, I think the voice I prefer for French is called Denise. You highlight the beginning of the text and then press Ctrl+Shift+U. Use the Voice Options menu that appears at the upper right to switch voices. There are better TTS options, but this one is pretty good, easy to use, and free.

Long texts or a need for the familiar register would require a DeepL subscription. For me, the annual individual subscription is worth every penny.

If you just want an ebook read to you then FBReader will do that for you. I used to have it read me books while I was driving.

Thanks folks; I appreciate your answers but I am not that techno savvy to follow through with your guidance in either case.

What I was looking for something a little bit simpler like this:

https://imtranslator.net/translate-and-speak/translate-english-and-speak-french/

It has been around for a long while and is super simple but it just so happens to have clumsy output.

Then as I see it you have two choices. Become tech savy, or pay money. If you select the pay money option then you can give Mr. Besos even more cash by signing up for AWS Polly. It is very easy to use, but you are charged a small amount per translation.

I might be cheaper to hire a live-in Frenchman (or woman).

Try this address in the EDGE BROWSER

https://de.pons.com/text-%C3%BCbersetzu ... C3%B6sisch

I think the translator is DEEPL (it offers alternatives when clicking on a translation), for the original/translation they offer audios or you can use EDGE'S voices.
If you create chunks in new lines, the text read at normal speed can be slowed down a bit through pauses.

Decidimos pasar un fin de semana
de desconexión y relax.
Cuando llegamos al hotel
nos avisan de
no poder aparcar dentro del recinto,
no hacer uso de la terraza y
la restricción horaria del spa
con motivo de la celebración de una boda,
cosa que podrían haber advertido
al realizar la reserva,
ya que ocasiona una serie de alteraciones en los planes
(ruidos hasta altas horas de la madrugada).

If the text is read with EDGE'S voices, different speeds are offered.
