Looking for Arabic dialogs.

Postby zelyntor » Sun May 16, 2021 1:06 am

Does anyone know of Arabic instruction using dialogs? I have always found this to be the most effective way to learn. Same method as the US Army Language School. Thanks

madinah arabic provides some videos for entry level and al jazeera arabic learning provides some readings with their pronunciation (generally with no harrakas as of intermediate level (but when videos available you already can know what they were))

Depends on the dialect you want to learn, but I wholeheartedly (and then some!) recommend the four book/CD set 'Speaking Arabic' by J. Elihay. It teaches the Palestinian dialect, which is very similar to Levantine arabic (spoken in Jordan etc). It's very Assimil-like, so all dialogue based, with bilingual text, but much more comprehensive - each dialogue is several minutes long.

I had a conversation yesterday with a native Arabic speaker, and everything we said I had picked up from one of the dialogues - and I'm only just halfway through book two. I was really pleased with how fluidly I could engage.

'Speaking Arabic' is expensive, but the single best language learning resource I have ever come across:

https://www.amazon.com/Speaking-Arabic- ... 851&sr=8-2

If you're looking for hours of audio-lingual drills too, with some shorter dialogues as learning material, seek out the DLI's Syrian Arabic course.

additional:

I found a book ,it appears good to me. (generally speaking WILEY's resouurces are not bad. I especially enjoy in (independent) lerning software subjects)

now for this topic, I can reference this book:

intermediate arabic for dummies. (wiley Publishing, Keith Massey,PhD)

the title adresss that that book would be for intermediate level of learners but it came to me very easy for first three or four chapters.
I hope you will enjoy.

I should have qualified my question by specifying that I am learning Egyptian Arabic. Given that, I would like to find dialogs as well as a complete course text, if anyone can recommend one. Thanks.

I haven't used them but AUC Press published two courses for Egyptian Arabic: kullu tamam!: An Introduction to Egyptian Colloquial Arabic and Kallimni ‘Arabi (5 volumes).

There is also the Kalaam Gamiil books:
https://aucpress.com/product/kalaam-gamiil/
It depends on whether you know MSA, or not. Kallimni and Kalaam expect you to know some MSA. Kullu does not, if I recall correctly.
(By way of warning, I'll also say that Kallimni is almost completely in Arabic.)

There are also the free materials from the University of Michigan.
