Recommendation for German online subscription programs

I'm not sure how to motivate myself to learn grammar for German (vocab is no problem). I suspect I need to unlearn a certain amount of the grammar that I learned, forgot, guessed at, and practiced a lot.

One idea is to put money on the table. If I can find an online program for a reasonable subscription (say under $30/month), that I have to justify to myself every month... then it might be the nudge I need. For this to work as a motivator, it would need to be interactive, online, and monthly payments that I could cancel (the stick!)

There seem to be a number of programs but since I am intermediate in reading and speaking (if you ignore grammar) but probably ought to get grammar from beginner, it's going to be hard to fit. Rosette Stone is definitely not what I need and duolingo drives me batty. The ones I've found are Pimsleur, Glossika, Mondo, Mango, FluentU.

Any suggestions/comparisons/recommendations?

Hi Lisa,

For German take my ideas with a grain of salt, I've done a lot of research but haven't used the paid versions of any of these resources because I'm working through enough free ones right now. For resources you've already mentioned, I really enjoyed FluentU in French years back but I don't recall them doing much for grammar at all.

• News in Slow German has a lot of intermediate content, the link has the grammar they cover. ($20/mo)
• Easy German on YouTube has a paid app that I thought looked useful and since I love their channel I'd feel good supporting them, they do cover grammar topics well on the channel. ($10/mo for interactive exercises, transcripts, vocab lists)
• Fluenz German levels 3-5 are taught by a German native and based on my experience in Spanish it would cover the grammar exhaustively. It doesn't match your subscription desire but I found marching across the blocks of completed lessons very satisfying. (levels 3-5 ~$320 / 90 lessons / 10 1 hour lessons a month = ~$35/mo)

Thanks, Sally. They aren't quite what I want (at least, Fluenz is quite spendy), but perhaps there isn't anything really good out there...

What I've done: Found some drills on lingulia and I invested 12 bucks for the expanded exercises... but it's not great. I also spent a little bit on a Udemy course (on sale for about $13); some quizes and drills so we'll see what that can do. It's more structured so it might be easier to keep myself moving.

If you really want to get German grammar under your belt I'd suggest to work through a book. There are a lot of books on German grammar. I used this one: https://www.schubert-verlag.de/b-grammatik.php
