Quality of translations English (AE) - Spanish?

seem a good learning source and are accompanied by audio. But how good are the
translations. Can I trust them to the point of memorizing them?

The Spanish is native and has been translated by a competent professional.

My only concern about memorizing these texts is that the style used is very much one associated with texts for young children (around 9 or 11 years old maybe); you wouldn't write like this to adults. Signs of this sort of style aimed at children are the repetition of material barely just mentioned one or two sentences before, the breaking of any complex syntax into multiple sentences, the use of tú and nosotros (as opposed to impersonal constructions), and the use of only very common vocabulary and sometimes outright colloquial vocabulary.

Here is an example, from "La escuela y el asma":

Es una buena idea que tus padres se reúnan con el enfermero de la escuela y tus profesores para revisar el plan. De esta manera, sabrán qué medicamentos necesitas tomar y cuándo. También es una buena idea contarles a tus amigos sobre tu asma. De esta forma, comprenderán por qué tomas medicamentos y podrán ayudarte si alguna vez tienes dificultad para respirar.

The content is obviously aimed at a child as it talks about their parents and school, but in terms of style, in the typical style of medical content aimed at adults, say, the same thing aimed at the parents, I would render this more like:

Es buena idea reunirse con el enfermero escolar y con los profesores del o de la estudiante para revisar el plan, delineando qué medicamentos se deben tomar y cuándo. También lo es asegurarse que amigos/as del o de la estudiante sepan de la condición, para que comprendan la razón de los medicamentos y le provean asistencia en caso de tener dificultad al respirar.

Notice how the original on KidsHealth repeats es una buena idea, and words the suggestion with a strong parallelism of idea-and-purpose, idea-and-purpose, with the purposes starting with de esta manera/forma. On the other hand, KidsHealth nevertheless uses medicamentos, which is a bit less common than medicina in spoken Spanish.


I was able to catch a typo in "E. coli" ("Pero lo[​s] niños también pueden ayudar"), but otherwise it is all perfectly written. Notice its use of caca, something normally too colloquial for content of this sort, but admissible here because it's aimed at children.
