@Kraut, thank you for posting the link to Future Learn. I notice that this company offers courses for learning several languages and for related topics: Chinese grammar, Dutch, English, Italian, Korean, Norwegian, Spanish, Teaching English, Linguistcs, and Cultural Studies.

Have you enrolled in any of these courses yourself or know of someone who has? If so, what makes these courses stand out from those of their competitors? Would you recommend over, say, Assimil, Linguaphone, FSI/DLI, Michel Thomas, Pimsleur, and the like?

I really can't assess them. I remember starting a Spanish course a while ago which I didn't pursue because it was so basic. Since then I have been on their mailing list. I would think that they are very diverse considering the institutions offering them and their length.
