works grammatically but conceptually one devotes time to an activity or to a goal

"They devote their time diligently to master moving beyond time."
"They devote their time diligently to mastering moving beyond time."
"They devote their time diligently to mastering how to move beyond time."

all work.

also, I cannot help wondering does it have something to do with my thinking mode that is shaped by my mother tongue referring to the fact that i try to use less words to convey more?
Is it that Chinese thinking tends to be vague and macro since it conveys a lot in a couple of characters/words while English thinking needs specification and detail?
Or is it just my personal mode?

I don't know if it makes sense to you. what is your perception as a polyglot?

Yes, small elements of our mother tongue creep into how we think with and about language. It's a whole field of research called cognitive linguistics...

Take a look at:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linguistic_relativity

Specifically look at the so-called weak "Sapir-Whorf Hypothesis"...
