One of the our best examples of people using video with great success, and both intensively and extensively, is Garyb, who happens to be a man. And if you look into the logs and discussions, you'll find various examples of women struggling at first too. :-)

I don't know how successful you'd consider me to be, but I learn languages primarily through extensive listening, and I'm male as well.

Too small a sample size :D

Everybody will struggle at the beginning. It's how they can sit through it and stick with it.

BTW, I found Peppa Pig in Mandarin tough going. Many people felt I am intermediate in Mandarin but I don't know how to snort in Mandarin.

Too small sample to publish an article about it (but let's not pretend that most langauge teaching oriented "scientific" articles have a respectable sample :-D). But definitely sufficient to show that a man doesn't need to worry too much about this or feel at a disadvantage, I'd say.
