Yeah it was down for about 24 hours :( rdearman contacted the hosting company and they fixed the issue that caused this.

Sometimes shaking chicken bones at the computer works.

I spent some time on my Finnish and Slovak, had a good night's sleep, worked all day and now the forum works!

Is anyone having problems with attachments now? I didn't see Clare's recent post until now, and the attached image doesn't show up :| I do see an older attached image in my own log.

That's strange. I read that post earlier (before the outage) and the picture was there, now it isn't.

The last two images I had uploaded before the outage had to be reuploaded - the reference codes were still there, but apparently the image files hadn't been backed up yet so the numbers didn't refer to anything ... or maybe there is another explanation, who knows? I checked some older pages, and all images there were OK, and I assume that this means that members only have to check their messages from the last week or so.

I'm told they did a full restoration of the file system from the previous day. The database is backed-up in real time, but the file system is a daily backup. This means that although the link to the file in the database was restored, the actual file itself would have disappeared. :(

Is there something that some of us could do to help rdearman financially? I did not realize the financial foundation for this whole Forum rests on the shoulders of one man. Asking one man to carry the wait of many over the long run seems to me to be both unfair and unrealistic.

Can't we come up with options by way of assisting?

Oh lots of people have volunteered to assist, and I do appreciate it. I don't mind footing the bill since I get so much out of being a member and being involved in the community. I only wish I had the resources to do some of the things which can be done with a corporate budget! Having said that, emk and myself have been reviewing alternatives which are both cost effective and technically robust.
