ANKI slowed audio addon, shared deck functionality?

Happy Saturday everybody,

I'm currently putting together a deck that I plan to share with friends, and found the following awesome add-ons: https://ankiweb.net/shared/info/234253523

However, when my friends download ANKI and open the deck, will this functionality remain? Or will they need to manually add the add-on themselves?

Thank you to all you wonderful forummers for making this incredible forum exist!! Can't believe I didn't find it earlier!!

They will need to add it to their own Anki set-up.

Thanks zenmonkey. Do you know of an easier way that I could give the user an option to slow the audio down to half speed? That is, ideally he hears it full speed first, then has an option of clicking a button that lets him listen to the clip at half speed. And after that, he can replay either audio clip as many times as he wants.

Sorry for so many questions; still getting used to all the immense editing features that ANKI has to offer.

Have the user add the function into their own app is a one time thing. Just enter the code. It is probably the easiest option. Otherwise you will need to record the sound at two speeds ... splice them together, etc.

I personally try to not use slowed down sounds on cards, it is an SRS technique not a first impression tool. Listen to conversations using a different audio tool use Anki for the SRS based learning.

Just now seeing this - thanks for the responses, makes a lot of sense.

It seems that I've misunderstood what you meant by "it" -

From what I've [wrongly] understood, you say "I personally don't use slowed down sound on cards", but then it seems like you're saying "[using slowed down sound on cards] is an SRS technique[,] not a first impression tool".

If you're saying that keeping the audio at normal speed is the best way to train the ear, you're completely right, I'm 100% going to remove that option (ideally, the first ~50 or so flashcards have a slowed down option so that the complete beginner can get adjusted, but that's a bit too complicated and probably not necessary).
