When I tried to use emojis from iPhone keyboard http://emojikeyboard.org/
It says "message contains unsupported characters"
Why is it then that we can use emojis on Youtube comments and other websites but not on this forum ?

iPods, iPhones and iPads allow users to enter "emoji" icons which are special unicode characters the iOS translates into pictures, including smiley faces. However, MySQL (the backend database software used here) doesn't support Unicode characters outside of the Basic Multilingual Plane. The mysqli class would have to perform its transactions using the utf8mb4 character set instead of the utf8 character set.
YouTube is owned by Google and (I believe) use Microsoft SQL Server as the backend DB. A rather expensive commercial solution which I can't afford.
There is an experimental extension which we might be able to add, assuming our database software is equal to or greater than the MySQL version required for mysqli class support outside of BMP. I'll look into it, but I'm not promising anything.
