Morning folks, I'm just having trouble embedding videos into my language log. I know that you only include the string of numbers and letters following the equals sign, but when I preview the post and press play on the video, an "error occurred" message comes up. Wondering if it's just me or the videos I've been trying, or if other people are experiencing this too?
Cheers,
Chmury

Hi Chmury,
I am not experiencing any difficulties, either in preview mode or after posting.

Re: Trouble embedding YouTube videos
I have looked at the reference code i Chmury's post above: wt6s21MtwDGRFqhQ. This is a surprisingly long code - for instance the code of one of the links in the Arguelles thread looks like this: oRbVBcBZ6-Y. And the code of a video about a supersized Pteranodon which I watched recently looks like this: mvk3RBGXxic. I don't know why Lavengro doesn't have problems seeing Chmury's video, but I tried to put the long code directly in the commandline of Youtube, and as expected it didn't work. So the question is where it comes from.
Could it be that from youtu.be? It would then be another code, but I tried to clip a code from a youtu.be link and insert it into Youtube's command line and ghat worked. But maybe it doesn't work the other way round, i.e. if you use Youtu.be while establishing the link - ah dunno. Anyway, the key to the solution must be to get a more detailed report from Chmury about how the code is obtained - and maybe also what title of the intended video was. Right now I just see a black rectangle with an non-functioning arrow in the middle.

For clarity, I do have problems seeing Chmury's video. I intended in my comment to indicate that I was not experiencing difficulties myself in creating posts with a functioning embedded Youtube video.

Re: Trouble embedding YouTube videos
If I try to use that video id in a YouTube url, I get a "no longer available" message: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wt6s21MtwDG

Re: Trouble embedding YouTube videos
Chmury, if you're looking at one of YouTube's generated "youtu.be" share links, you need to use the characters between the third "/" and the "?", not the longer string of characters at the end of the url. For example if your youtu.be url is...
...then the string to use to paste it on this board is "ZJO4_5YPTMM" and not "5H-SoWYVbXvoC8tU."
...then the string to use to paste it on this board is "ZJO4_5YPTMM" and not "5H-SoWYVbXvoC8tU."

You've solved it Tastyonions! I didn't realise that was the case when using those .be share links. Thanks heaps.
