Friend and Foe button.

Postby sfuqua » Thu Jan 07, 2016 4:56 am

I hope I haven't missed a FAQ, but what do the friend and foe buttons do? I've been afraid to click on them, even for people whose posts I always read, because I would never want to creep anybody out with a "friend request"

A foe button?

"Eww, why does that weirdo want to be my friend?" :)

There is a FAQ at the top. Here's what it says:

Friends and Foes

What are my Friends and Foes lists?
You can use these lists to organise other members of the board. Members added to your friends list will be listed within your User Control Panel for quick access to see their online status and to send them private messages. Subject to template support, posts from these users may also be highlighted. If you add a user to your foes list, any posts they make will be hidden by default.

How can I add / remove users to my Friends or Foes list?
You can add users to your list in two ways. Within each user’s profile, there is a link to add them to either your Friend or Foe list. Alternatively, from your User Control Panel, you can directly add users by entering their member name. You may also remove users from your list using the same page.

That might be convenient actually, if it highlights posts.

I'm pretty sure our styles don't do that  Maybe the difference in colour is so minor that I never noticed.

Just a note, I've added the phpBB software FAQ to our own forum FAQ so hopefully it will be easier for people to find in future.

Merely a vulgar ignore? Pah, we need more nuance here.

e.g.

1. Just ignore them and they'll go away
2. Walk on by
3. Cut dead
4. Stare down
5. Talk in whispers to one's companion as one walks on by, giving disdainful look aside

I'm sure there is even more scope here.

(Perhaps I've been watching too much Tudor period drama...)
