Thread tags

On the old forum, topics had tags. This made it much easier, especially with logs, to pick which ones to read. Are we going to have tags here too eventually?

We would love to have thread tags! Unfortunately, the existing phpBB 3.1 tagging extension has some limitations that make it awkward for anybody but the original poster to tag threads, and we might need to tweak the code a bit first.

As always, if any programmers want to help me with the open source code for this site, we're very happy to draft volunteers and to accept code contributions. :-)

Mod question: Should these two threads be merged into this one?

The github page for the RH Topic Tags extension claims it supports "User and Mod+Admin permission for who can add/edit RH topic tags". Does that not actually let mods/admins edit tags for other people's threads?

Well, on HTLAL anybody could tag posts and experienced members did that a lot (I've added tags 650 times and Fasulye has done it over 13k times ). The autotagging was also pretty good, even with the minor flaws like tagging "Latin languages" as Latin.

LyricsTraining now has Finnish and Polish :)

On HTLAL there was an auto tagging device that provided as many tags as Fasulye and Meramarina together. I was no. 4 on the list. But as with all 'intelligent' systems it did some mistakes, and then we had to remove those tags. If tags are introduced then at least the mods should be able to correct the error. Like when any thread about Latin America was tagged "Latin".
