My Korean log/My studying methods

I've been studying korean seriously for about a year now, i spent a few months in the beginning of 2017 trying to learn it by using online resources, but i quit after a few months, and then i started again at the end of 2017/beginning of 2018.

i'd say i'm probably currently around lower intermediate, I estimate my known vocabulary to be around 3000, but i can't use all 3000 of those words myself. When watching a vlive with Korean subtitles, I can understand almost everything as long as the topic isn't too complicated.

My goals:
By the end of 2019, i want to be a lot better at making my own sentences, I want to improve my listening so i don't have to rely as much on korean subtitles.
I want to learn at least another 5000 words.

This is how i add sample sentences with audio to my vocab cards

I usually do this with vlive videos, since they're the easiest to get subs from, but you can also
do it with videos from viki or anywhere as long as you have korean and english subtitles.
The idea is to have a database deck full of sentences and a premade korean vocab deck (i use the Evita deck),
when you get a new card in the premade vocab deck and you want a sample sentence you can select the word and right click and
search for it within anki(with the anki web browser addon), and all of sample sentences containing that word will show up,
and you can then either view all of the cards with that word using the preview button or you can choose a card with
a good sample sentence and copy and paste all of the data from the that card to the back of the vocab card.
This isn't possible with all words, because of the conjugation but it works for most words if you only search for the stem.

1. Go on vlive and find a video you like
2. download the video and the eng subs and kor subs with http://home.soshistagram.com/naver_v/
3. use subs2srs to generate a deck
4. import it
5. do this with a lot of videos, imo you want to have at least 10.000 cards and you
should keep them all in 1 deck, set the new cards option and the reviews option to 0

Today i studied for 6 hours (used ATracker to track how many hours i spent)

- I learned 6 grammar points from KGIU intermediate and then i searched for each grammar point in my anki database deck and copied
all of the cards to 6 different decks named after each grammar point and then i put them all under a parent deck named Grammar
so i wouldn't have a bunch of different decks clogging up my anki, when i review each of these decks i'll then get a bunch of cards
containing this grammar point.

-I listened to 2 iyagi episodes and then i read through
the transcript using languagetools.io (like lingq but free)
and knew 98% and 97% of the words

-watched unsubbed youtube videos, there's a youtuber named sunmin
who explains lyrics of english songs in korean so i watched a bunch of those, i really
recommend her channel and especially her lyrics videos.

-did anki for 36 minutes

-watched a vlive (using voracious, which i REALLY REALLY recommend!!)
with voracious you can make anki cards while you're watching things, you just press
a button and it creates anki cards with a screenshot and audio and the text from the
subtitle files for you, when i'm finished watching i usually go into the anki browser and change
the color of the specific word/grammar point that i want to learn so it's easier to see.

-After i watched the vlive, i used some online converter to remove all the timestamps from
the subtitle file, and i added it to languagetools.io and read through it and selected
all of the words that i knew.

-watched an episode of YG treasure box and sentence mined from that too.

I usually don't study this much, it's only 3pm so i have time to study even more but
i think i'm gonna take a break lol

What is voracious? I was wondering what your mining style is. When you watch stuff on vlive do you look up every unknown word or just some ?

I personally prefer readlang.com because you can customize how it exports stuff you mined.

I personally prefer cloze deletion format and I switched in 2015 I think. Do you stick to that one format that you posted. Here’s more info about my holy grail format

If you want to make looking up words more effortlessly you should look into autohotkey and pair it with a gaming mouse.

And I also saw yg treasure box episode 1 recently because I love survival shows of this nature. It was my first time using vlive and I love how there’s korean subs and I can make them huge. I absolutely hate how korean shows have tiny text or horrible, illegible fonts on the screen at times.

Voracious is a video player made for language learning, especially japanese, but it's great for korean too.
I usually never watch stuff directly on the vlive website, i always download the video along with the korean subs and the english subs
and watch it in voracious so that if i want to mine a sentence i just have to press E and it exports the sentence to anki.
I try to stick to the i+1 method, so i usually only mine a sentence if i can understand everything except for 1 word, if there are too many words that i don't understand i just ignore it. When i look up words i use the naver dictionary app on my ipad and i add them to my wordlist, or if i'm lazy i select the word with my mouse and press ctrl+A and it looks it up for me in goldendict, but i don't always look the word up.
I used cloze deletion up until very recently! I still have a cloze deletion sentence deck but i've suspended it temporarily while
i'm trying this method out, I decided to try this out instead of cloze deletion because it's faster to review and doesn't require as much
effort, ideally i'd like to have an optional cloze option somehow but i'm pretty sure that doesn't exist lol
I think i'm gonna copy all of the new cards from my sentence deck to my cloze deck so that i'll have a cloze version and a normal version,
but it's gonna take me so long lol

total study time: 5 hours
-watched s3 ep 1 of daredevil with korean subtitles
and screenshotted some scenes with the windows snipping tool and highlighted
the most important information and put the screenshots into anki
-reviewed all of the sentences that were in my grammar decks that i made with
the grammar points i learned from kgiu yesterday
-did my anki reviews, i currently do 40 new cards per day from the evita deck and 10 from
her sentence deck and 25 from my sentence deck and a few more from my other decks
-Listened to 1 iyagi and read it with languagetools.io afterwards, understood 98%
-6 grammar points from kgiu intermediate
-watched unsubbed youtube videos
-read some webtoons

I wasn't home today, so i only had time to do anki. I started making these cards from the Handbook of Korean Vocabulary book and i did all of my reviews and new cards.

-watched unsubbed/kor subbed videos for like 2 hours
-listened to glossika for 30 minutes
-did anki for an hour, made a bunch of new cards
-started reading 연세 한국어 읽기 3 and listened to the audio files
-listened to two iyagi episodes
-read 72 pages of hunter x hunter in korean on my ipad, added important words to the vocabulary list in naver dictionary so i can add them to anki later

Wow, that Voracious thing looks really cool! Do you know if it also works for Memrise? I've tried using Anki but couldn't get used to it.
