Re: zu verrückt für euch (Rätsel|Adv|En TAC’15): German, Czech...

Yesterday I cried. Wanna know why? Here you go:
Image
Especially because of that:
Image
I did have money to buy it. But it's crisis, my own laptop is broken, and the uni comes back soon with its demands. So... so I stood there whining for, like, 10-15 minutes and then walked away to buy the notebooks I came there for.
On the bright side, I got Zmizela by Gillian Flynn - Flynnová :) - and now I can read it instead of Harry Potter. Or I can read both. Who knows.
LR-ing HP is the sole thing I got to do with Czech yesterday, and I haven't finished a chapter because my eyes were closing every second. I managed to deprive myself of sleep for three more hours, and, unfortunately, reading doesn't help me in such actions (yes, I played, yes, in English, oh my poor, poor 6WC, shame on me).
I wish I could do more today - and I have written a sheet of text in German already - but I feel too sleepy to read and too lazy to write. Memrise? I've had enough of Memrise.

Nice, I read Klaus Mann's Mephisto for German class in 11th grade! It's a good book! Narziss und Goldmund is even better though.

I've only seen the movie and it's... great is too weak a word for it. It's Klaus Maria Brandauer and after that I really have to shut up and let everyone think for themselves. It's not the kind of the movie you'd gladly rewatch... but I rewatched it and will do that later just to look at the real actor.
Hopefully the book - if I can get one from certain sources, haha - is just as good as the movie (although it has to be even better, so I am impatient). And thanks for the recommendation... wrong word. For approval, hehe.
Damn. I actually want to rewatch Mephisto right now -_-

Prvních sto slov

Postby Via Diva » Fri Aug 28, 2015 1:13 pm

It would be better if that had happened EARLIER. But, well... I present to you my first legitimate take on writing in Czech:
Prvních sto slov
Připadá mi, že já nic nechápu. Jak jsem začala jazyky učit? Proč jsem vybrala ty jazyky? Ačkoli vím já to.
A toho mně dostačovalo.

Great that I stayed away from Mephisto, huh?

Wow. Already corrected. And, well... I feel like I am a native English speaker when I look at this:

You probably know I adore Daphne du Maurier's books. Rebecca isn't her best, as I think, but it is quite popular, and Susan Rigvava-Dumas is just... majestic:
English

German

And today I bumped into a... Korean version:

I won't learn Korean, this kinda language won't hook me up that easily, but let me just say that I am impressed...

Dva kultury

Postby Via Diva » Sun Aug 30, 2015 5:42 pm

German: sleep mode
Swedish: words in Semper which I forget instantly
Czech: LR, Nohavica and this:
Nohavice (?). To je jistě složitější, než se zdá. Dříve téměř nic nevěděla jsem o Českou republikou, jí historií a kulturou.
Opravdu řečeno, a teď trochu vím.

Or in Russian - after all, I wrote in Russian and only then in Czech:

Yeah, not impressive. But uni comes soon, and this year is going to be tough, so I guess it's only fair to be la-hazy.

Since the 17th of July I've been totally obsessed with Jaromír Nohavica, and just look where it has led me! At the moment his songs have 2436 plays, according to last.fm (the link in my signature), and his Kometa has been played 689 times, which puts the song on the third place in my all time top (which counts songs correctly from somewhere around 2012).
There are of course some other factors - after all, living people have recommended me everything I've listened to, seen or tried to read - but all these people speak good English. Nope, the desire to grasp the lyrics, to be able to understand them, feel them... nothing motivates me better. I've improved my English for this, I've reached pretty solid intermediate in German because of this, and now... now I'm studying Czech thanks to this.
I keep finding/ following amazing stuff, like Jan Werich's fairy tale written in one-syllable words, or Tři veteráni, also based on Werich's work, or Kytice... But it all began with Kometa, a přiletěla ta kometa přímo do mojí hlavy, a tam i zůstala.
And what do you know about obsession?

I was about to recommend you Kometa, but you have already written that it is one of your all time favorite songs.

I completely agree with you. My desire to grasp the lyrics in Russian and understand everything motivates me to keep learning and improving my Russian. I am tempted to learn Czech for the same reason as yous, but I'd like to reach a solid level in Russian first.

Actually I'd like to grasp and understand the lyrics not only in Czech, but also in Bulgarian, Ukrainian, BCMS, Slovene, Slovak, Polish...I was simply born in the wrong place!
