Japanese:

- There is a certain difference between "wa" and "ga". I have been reading about it and was able to understand it to some extent. But nevertheless I didn't fully grasp it yet.

- Some say that even native speakers could struggle when trying to explain the difference.

- There are colors that are expressed by both of (Japanized) English and original Japanese. But the latter one seems to be less common, except for maybe rural areas or older people.

Spanish:
Knowing the word's meanings is among the easier aspects of learning it, I'd say.

As for the verbs, passively recognizing them doesn't feel too difficult either.

And actively using them (without looking them up first) isn't very hard either when it comes to the re-occurring ones like:
- he, has, ha (forms of haber, meaning "to have" as an helper word for some tenses. The other "to have" is tener).
- digo
- estuvo
- estaba
- quisiera

But what still somehow puzzles me is about some of those Grammar Glue Words beyond the basic "pero" and "que" for example. Those that are used for linking sentences together, or also parts of sentences. Among them are:
- mientras
- aunque
- cuando
- ...

Related to all languages, even those that are not on my list:

I was wondering how to deal with a situation like this.
Maybe one day a, for instance, French person would tell me that he doesn't make his own baguette very often, if he does it at all.

Then I possibly would say, "What? A French person who doesn't bake his own baguette at home every day? How is that even possible  ? But let me tell you, I myself do not believe any of those cliches and stereotypes".

So in case I would like to tell him that, even if I make it very clear that I am not at all under the impression of Every French Person baking their own baguette at home every day... are there still some possible pitfalls? Potential of misunderstanding? And if yes, what else could I add in order to avoid them? Yes, there also is the possibility of not saying something like this in the first place. But still wondering...

Spanish:

It is easy to say many different things even if someone would only know the participio pasado of some verbs, and some forms of haber.

Spanish: Taking a closer look at some Grammar Glue Words.

These examples aren't written by myself, but taken from various sources. The same possibly will apply to other examples of this kind in the future, Spanish or otherwise.

"Está resuelto aunque no hayamos hecho nada."

"Esto evitará los daños o fallos si se produce un cortocircuito mientras está trabajando."

"Hay graves problemas, aunque se pueden superar."

"Su respuesta, sin embargo, no ha sido tan concreta como mi pregunta."

"Quisiera poner algunos ejemplos para luego sacar conclusiones generales."

 Any post on this log could be either rather long, or short like this one, or anything in between. In case some of you have an issue with very short posts like this ;) , I can be PMed for a certain tutorial. It is called: How To Mentally Block All Of SGP's Posts On LLOrg. ;) :o

Swedish - continuing this Grammar Glue Words Thingy, just as it has been the case with Spanish and French:

"Jag tycker om mandlar, men inte jordnötter."

"Hon är inte sjuksköterska, utan läkare."

"Jag förlåter, men jag kommer aldrig att glömma."

"Alla hästar är djur, men inte alla djur är hästar."

Dutch - but without the Afrikaans counterparts:

(Because I would have to write them myself. And this cannot be done without taking some additional time to look them up.But the last few posts simply are all about shortly familiarizing oneself a bit more with these Grammar Glue Word Gizmos.)

"Maar de koffie is niet goed."

"Men behandelde hem goed, maar toch had hij schrik."

"Het schip zonk tijdens de storm."

"Wacht tot morgen."

"Als je de radio niet uitzet, ga ik me boos maken."

Swahili:

-nge- conditional marker:

(For conditions that still can be realized.
The other one is -ngali-.
But sometimes the first one is used for the second's purpose, and vice-versa.)

-kuta: to find.

"Tungewakuta wangekula maembe. If we were to find them, they would eat mangoes."

gani, used in questions like "what kind of" and so on:

"Unaishi sehemu gani (ya) Kansas?
In which part of Kansas do you live?"
"Ninaishi sehemu ya mashariki. / Ninaisha sehemu ya magharibi.
I live on the east side ("part"). / I live on the west side."

Relative pronoun amba-:

"Ni wewe ambaye ulisoma kitabu.
It is you who studied the book.

Ni wewe uliyesoma kitabu.
It is you who studied the book [rephrased using a verb and -ye]."

Important: The suffix for "you" in these sentences is -ye. But one cannot conclude that "-ye" simply means "you" or something like this. The same suffix for amba- is also used for I (mimi) and he/she (yeye).

Quantifier -ote, meaning "all/entire/whole":

"Chakula chote kimepikwa.
All the food has been cooked.

Vyakula vyote vimepikwa.
All the foods have been cooked."

(This is about the noun class of chakula. Not about all noun classes.)
