well, my original post got wiped out from being "idle". So I'll just say "First Japanese Reader" by Miku Ono is good for where I am, but it has no explanations like, how much kanji is in this book?

Also, I've noticed every time I manage to get in an immersion situation for several days, my Cebuano gets much easier.

Hapon

Sige kog nagbasa sa kanang reader ug sige kog pagimprov pagusbaw. Nay mga upat ka kapitulo nabilin lang.

Toki Pona

Nagbalik ko sa toki pona, kay nakaplaga nakapagnita kog translation sa Mateo 5, ug nagsabot na ka nga unsay puede magbuhat ning gamay nga language linguahe.

Japanese: finished that Japanese reader, and a quick look at the Kyoiko Kanji tells me that I got up around grade 3 kanji with this book. My Kanji doesn't seem to be my worst Japanese feature right now, but rather vocab. I pulled out my Cortina Japanese, and this is great to build up my vocab and listening skills at the moment. They do some things that are strange to me though, like saying nippon go instead of nihon go, and watakushi instead of watashi. An older way of saying it? Something more polite? A regional variation? I really don't know.

Calling the Japanese language にっぽんご is pretty unusual nowadays, regardless of region or context, although I guess historically it might have been preferred in Western Japan (due to the pronunciation にほん being a Kanto-based innovation) and in more formal registers (due to にっぽん technically being the more etymologically correct pronunciation). わたくし is still very much in use, albeit in more formal situations, like when talking to a client or a business counterpart, or when giving a public speech.

I'm reviewing Japanese & Greek with Anki, including some audio flashcards made from Cortina for listening comprehension. I bought Supermemo 17 last week due to its apparent 30% better efficiency. I like it but they haven't given me my registration password yet and I'm pretty much locked out of all my new cards.
edit: like 5 minutes after I posted this, I got a password

Thoughts on how to use Supermemo (for language)

Step 1: Go to warrior mode. This way all the options are shown, a crucial one of which is importing cards.
Step 2: Aside from the general advice, do the final drill for foreign vocab. (They say that "advanced" users do not need this. I have no idea what that would be). *All* my cards started just leeching out when I skipped the final drill.

Supermemo also has some nice options for leeches, missed days, and a pile of cards for the day that is way to big.
