Start thinking in Afrikaans ... and use Google Translate to make bilinguals. It may not be perfect, but it is fast, and its errors are mostly so gross that you can spot them and avoid learning false data.

Ek het meer volsinne vir my flashcards op anki nodig. Dalk kan ek Harry Potter gebruik. Ek moet erken, dit is 'n onverwagte probleem! 'n Ander ding dat ek nodig het is oefen met "reported speech". Hierdie week gaan ek werk daarop.

I need more complete sentences for my anki flashcards. Perhaps I can use Harry Potter. I have to admit, this is an unexpected problem! Another thing that I need is practice with reported speech. This week I'm going to work on it.

Great week this week. I have completed two italki conversations and have two more scheduled. I also watched two full episodes of "Die Boekklub", which I am thoroughly enjoying. There is another Afrikaans show called "Fynskrif" that I am about to start. Unfortunately, kyknet doesn't allow me to disable the English subtitles. I also downloaded a few more podcasts. It takes a while for me to search through the episode lists and sample them in order to find episodes where both people are speaking clearly. A lot of times they're simply too fast and I don't gain much out of it.

Hard to believe I've been at this almost 6 months now and my motivation level remains high! I had a great discussion with one of my teachers today about regional accents and dialects.

The words in Afrikaans for memory are "herinnering" and "geheue" (at least that's how I learned from one teacher). Talking with my other teacher from a different part of the country, he literally had no idea what the word "geheue" mean't and had never heard of it. He simply uses the word "memory" :D

Things are chugging along. I wrote a short post on my blog about memory and SRS. https://foxlikefrank.com/kom-ons-praat-oor-geheue/

I hope to continue writing in Afrikaans as it is a great thought exercise. I am also trying to read more news articles.

Still using Anki for new vocab, but I am now switch my cards to this

Front: Kom ons praat ____ geheue
Front: photo

Back: geheue

Had a couple in person conversations this week as well as an italki lesson.

Unfortunately, I think I am in some sort of B1 rut. I am losing my motivation and need to change things up these last few months.

Going to reflect on this and hopefully find some threads on the forum for extra motivation.

Powered through 3 chapters of Harry Potter this week. I was pleasantly surprised to see how much I have learned over the past few months.

My tutor recommended getting the paid subscription to the main Afrikaans newspaper in South Africa in order to read more contemporary articles so that is my next adventure.
