Ani's Russian Log

Postby Ani » Thu Jul 26, 2018 1:13 am

Я хотел запустить другой журнал, чтобы я мог практиковать русский язык. На этот раз я надеюсь использовать более ориентированный на результат подход к обучению. Я буду размещать свои домашние задания и, возможно, даже некоторые образцы речи. Я планирую писать полностью на русском языке.

Hahaha just kidding.. I just ran that through Google translate. I have no idea if came out remotely close to what I typed in.

My intention is to keep this log purely technical. Post homework I've done, practice writing, document things watched or listened to and post questions I need to resolve related to usage or grammar.

French, Icelandic and general musings will stay in my 2018 log.

Corrections and help are very much appreciated but please don't feel obligated or burdened by my ineptitude :)

You had me fooled. I was like “Oh look, Ani has a new log! Oh <bleep>, it’s actually in Russian!”

I’m looking forward to your Russian inspiration!

At first glance it looked okay (besides the wrong gender), then I took a closer look... well, it's not bad, it's just a bit weird in the Google translate way  . But it's clear what you wanted to say and, I guess, it's close to the original text :) .

It might be a relief Google knows a lot about me, but not my gender lol :) (just kidding they know everything...)

My actual Russian level is much more like: тут сова. мама дома.

Since I've been in bed, I managed a whole lot of sentences in Clozemaster. I'm not sure if I started at 0 or if I had done some on the First 100 words deck, but I'm now at 860 sentences.

I rewatched Locust after the discussion with Xmmm on my "real" log. I really don't know how people can make such bad decisions.. one on top of the other and then more. Hard to watch nevus I just wanted to keep yelling no no no! Or maybe нет нет нет!

Урок 1 in спутник went well and was easy. I intend to post a photo of at least part of the workbook pages to keep myself accountable. I haven't finished the corresponding pages yet (because of being in bed). Will be getting them done being moving on to the second lesson.

So it's been a couple weeks. I feel like Russian had actually been my primary focus (mínus a little bit if French tv binging) and yet I'm not entirely sure what to say about it. I'm learning *very* slowly, if I'm even learning at all? I don't even know.

Since I've only really succeeded in learning via listening I'm changing or maybe modifying my approach and going for MT Russian. I've got the first CD down. Hopefully I'll make some actual progress through it. Nice thing is I can do it while I wash dishes.

I'm debating whether to continue Clozemaster or to what extent of should keep it up. I've got a 9 day streak, which is great, but I don't really think I'm learning a lot. The # of times I get new words wrong before I start getting they'll consistently right is impractical. So far I've done 100% of the 1-100 most common words (1191 sentences) with just 87 mastered & 482 of 100-500 with 0 mastered.

It is one thing I can easily do during certain times that I couldn't do anything else. I guess I just have to stop thinking of it as learning and remember it is more just reinforcement.

I was like: why is she writing in the masculine gender about her intentions?!? :D

Check Easy Croatian (very useful for Bosnian, Montenegrin and Serbian as well)

Because she doesn't know what she's doing sufficiently enough to edit the Google translate output -- And in fact the task was too scary to even attempt. Consider it a cry for help. :) Someday we can look back on this log and know from what humble beginning it has come.

I would help you if I could really speak Russian :D I accidentally speak a related language, so I can understand like 40-50% of words and forms without even learning Russian, for sure the gender and most endings :) Good luck, Russian is not simple by any means but it can be learned!

"Accidentally" hehe.. I've seen your posts over in Claire's log. They're super helpful & thorough. Shame I'm not learning Croatian. I'm having a grass is always greener moment.... Maybe I'll actually make some progress here & I can try out Croatian later :)

I went over a few more tracks of MT. It makes Russian seem awfully easy. I wonder if anyone has any tips on how to actually use MT? Do you review tracks in a pattern?

So far what I've been doing is roughly 4-5 tracks at a stretch & repeating with a bit of overlap like 2-6, 4-8, 5-12, 10-14, etc .. just wherever it seems like I could use a little mulligan.
