That bar is left from my previous log, Strictly German, which I put on hold the minute I decided to go for the test

Cross my heart, no German! ;)

I should update my profile a bit...

After the initial rush to do everything at once, I have finally reached a strategy. I see now how I should proceed.

My main problem is grammar/syntax, and this is what I will start with. The vocabulary of the (many) exercises will have to do for now, as unless I get a solid base I might as well stay home and not sit the test at all. The exercises will include translations, more and more as I progress. I give myself until the end of August to deal with that part, and then I will start again with conversation and vocabulary, as well as more grammar. The vocabulary in particular is a bit of a problem, because I need not only the most common words, but also current ones, used in the press. I'll cross that bridge when I get there.

I feel things are in order now, and the undercurrent of panic is gone. Thanks for stopping me starting German again, I was this close...

As for German, I have a few weeks between the French test and the Vienna trip. I may do the Michel Thomas course (after the test!) just to have some knowledge, and after that we'll see.

Studying grammar as usual, but not hard enough yet...

Last night I saw a show on TV5 about books, and was able to follow a pretty difficult conversation, but I could never speak like that myself. It was about (among others) le deuxième sex and les hauts de hurlevent. It woke me up to the reality that I must triple my efforts, that what I do now is probably the minimum.

See you on Monday.

This was a disastrous French day, but boy did I have fun at the beach!

Quelle belle journée. Je ne regrette pas un moment que je n'ai pas étudié. J'en ai marre de penser au futur, de me sentir stressée. Je veux enfin être libre de tous mes ennuis.

A phrase that impressed me:

In describing Lamartine's verse, Gautier says: " Il ya un charme magique dans cette respiration du vers qui s'enfle et s'abaisse come la poitrine de l'Océan."

But there's no sense crying over every mistake. You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

After all the French overdose of the world cup, I renewed my enthusiasm a bit. Just checking in to say things are moving forward, not as much as I would like yet of course. I hope that during the month of August I will be able to fully immerse in grammar and cover all the material so that, come September, I can move on to texts and vocabulary. There is nothing I would like more than to write in French all the time, but I have to look up things ALL THE TIME and that is very frustrating. I'll get there...
