KGIU, Anki, journal entry, daily Naver Dictionary conversation, Lingodeer: ✓ I started chapter 24 of KGIU Intermediate. This chapter is about expressing hypothetical situations, and the first lesson was about -(느)ㄴ다면. I'm almost to the end of the KGIU Intermediate book, and I'm not sure if I'll just start on the KGIU Advanced book right away when I finish with this one or try doing something else for a while. I might just take like a week or so to review and check up on my knowledge of the grammar that I've learned so far and then start the advanced book. Studying Korean grammar has been really fun so far though, and I definitely like the KGIU books. They do have some typos here and there, but I love the sections where they compare and contrast similar grammar points.

KGIU, Anki, journal entry, daily Naver Dictionary conversation, Lingodeer: ✓ I finished chapter 26 of KGIU Intermediate and did the chapter quiz. The last lesson in the chapter was about -(으)ㄴ/는 척하다. And with that, I've now gone through all of the KGIU Intermediate book. To review, I'm going to just look through the grammar points I've learned and check my understanding of them. If I don't fully understand or remember one then I'll read more about it and add some more sentences to my Anki deck if needed.

I encountered an interesting situation today. Sometimes, if I want to make sure I understand a grammar point, I'll check online, and one of the sites I end up looking at is HowToStudyKorean. Today it was a bit confusing though. So, what I wanted to check was the difference between -(으)ㄴ 척했다 and -는 척했다, which is explained in the KGIU book like this:
Image

However, in the lesson on HowToStudyKorean it says:
"Another peculiar thing about this grammatical principle is that there doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason as to when the past tense form of ~ㄴ/은 should be used or the present tense ~는 should be used."
"However, in Korean, the action that is pretended is conjugated – but there is no need to distinguish a different meaning between the two. The examples that I used previously in the lesson:

그는 정답을 아는 척했어요 = He pretended to know the right answer
강아지는 무서워서 죽는 척했어요 = The dog pretended to be dead because it was scared

Could also be said/written as:

그는 정답을 안 척했어요 = He pretended to know the right answer
강아지는 무서워서 죽은 척했어요 = The dog pretended to be dead because it was scared"

Not only that, but KGIU also says:

But then, in the examples given above from HowToStudyKorean, they used 알다 in the past tense. All of that left me a bit confused, but I decided to just go with that KGIU says for now.
