I'm sorry for having been complacent the past weeks. I have actually started Moscow 2042 in Russian, and I am on like 20% of the book. I haven't done much else because my private life is still a whirlwind and I'm settling into a new routine with my new partner. This is taking up most of my energy outside of work right now and though it's an extremely positive development, it's rather tiring.

I'm very happy too. I haven't really had a partner for years, and by a combination of assertivity and sheer luck I stumbled upon somebody that I actually really want to stay with, and that feeling is entirely mutual. But since it's new and fresh, it means my whole routine is changing because I'm not spending weekends at home anymore, and I'm also absent during the week here and there. It's also a hassle because both of us have some complicated medical issues (that I won't go into here) that affect our energy levels. And language learning has therefore moved to the back burner somewhat for me now.

But she's someone that I am super happy with, and all the signs point towards a very good relationship that will be extremely loving and stable. I am extremely happy with that, I deserve it after all the horror I've been through.

Now I just have to teach her Spanish and we're all set ;)

Ok I lied, I have been writing poetry, but most of that has been in English or Dutch. However, this is my most recent poem, and it's in Spanish, so it might be interesting to take a look at (it's also a romantic poem, which is unusual in that I normally don't write a lot of love poetry, but that's really been my mood lately, for reasons already explained above.) Another conspiciously absent factor is my use of very strict meter and rhyme. Here, the lines are short, so I don't have to struggle with too many grammatical constructions. And the more sparse use of rhyme and assonance works well with my more limited ability in Spanish (in English I would use a much more expansive register and vocabulary, and some of my works in English are large, and come near to telling stories).

No hay mundo sin ti

No me puedo imaginar
Un mundo sin ti
Él parece ser circular
Un sinfin de vaivenes

La gente se mueve
Desde aquí hacia allí
Se habla pero no se dice
Nada que no sepamos ya

La frontera existe
Pero solo en el tiempo
Cuando se rompa el hielo
Y nos veamos otra vez

No me puedo imaginar
Un mundo sin tus ojos
Del vidrio más claro
Llegado del sueño

Soporífica, yo
Me levanto sin ti
Sin querer, pensando
Que estás donde no esté

No quiero imaginar
Este ratito sin ti
¿Como voy a pasarlo?
¿Ya confías en mí?

Recién llegada
La mujer eres tú
Quizás la de mi vida
La de mi espíritu

Se ha roto el hielo
Se ha disuelto el sueño
La realidad cuenta contigo
Y juntas vamos allí.

Beautiful.

Best of luck with the relationship. I agree, you do deserve it. But no one can decide that more than yourself.

I haven't been doing much, but I read a few pages of Moscow 2042. I did finish an entire novel yesterday in one day more or less, but that was a gay romance novel (hehe) and it was in English (the only notable part of it being that the author is actually Dutch). I might actually move on to different things, but I just haven't been up to it due to health issues and private life things.

Another love poem for you all in Spanish.

¡Amor, amor, amor!

¡Amor, amor, amor!
Gritando lo universal
A la calle con un gran clamor,
Desde el techo de la vida:
¡Amor, amor, amor!
Que no se apaga nunca
Como la luz faltando
En un hospital lejano;
Que se derrama
Sobre los cuerpos humanos
En el lecho conyugal:
¡Amor, amor, amor!
Es lo que siempre se ve
En tus ojos morenos;
Una mirada intoxicada
Llena de deseo y anhelo;
El cuerpo frotando despacito
Moviendo suavecito
Hasta que se pare por éxtasis
Sintiendo todo, gimiendo:
¡Amor, amor, amor!
Mojando las vulvas
Erigiendo los penes,
Y todo lo que se encuentra
Dentro de tus piernas
Por un momento volátil
Se nota pasivo, contento, ¿feliz?
¿Quién sabe lo que pasará?
Después de todo,
Somos todos hechos completos
De una única cosita:
¡Amor, amor, amor!

I haven't been doing that much, except for messing around with the Urdu alphabet for fun. It's nice to do, and it's a nice challenge to recognize those cursive lines that to me always looked like endless squiggles. It's cool.

Makes for a change compared to Cyrillic, haceks and those square squiggles from east Asia.

Oh, and I'm nearly finished with Moscow 2042. Yeah.

And I'm travelling starting next week.

I finished Moscow 2042 and have started on Jorge Amado's Capitães da Areia. I won't comment on it here right now because a) I don't want to spoil anything for our Portuguese learners and b) I've only just started.

I'm leaving for Germany, Czech Republic and Poland on Thursday. Will be practicing German and Czech for sure, Polish is a bit iffy because my Polish is crappalicious, but we'll see how far we get. The only annoying thing is that I'm travelling without my partner (they're not coming on this trip), and I'm probably going to miss her, so I'll have to keep busy. We've decided to go travel together in the fall, though. We're intending to visit Portugal (which is a country I have not yet visited, somehow, so I'll have a chance to brush up my Portuguese).
