Still not much going on, but I'm back on track with trying to read some books (one in Italian, which is easy, and one in Icelandic, which drives me nuts). It doesn't take a genius to figure out I'm liking the Italian more (the easier books usually are the more fun to read, because you actually get what is going on - it takes a little fight to get through the phase where you are semi-struggling, and then you can usually enjoy something at your leisure.

Right now my mind is entirely somewhere else and my stomach is fluttery, so we'll see where that goes.

Personal shit has interfered with my life today, so I haven't done anything of language-note. I mean, other than speaking in languages I already know.

Nope, still not going anywhere, but my Icelandic is getting better in its spoken format.

And I need to speak more French.

Ok, so I finished my Italian book, and I am still doing things at a snail's pace (and that will continue to happen for a while), but there's a reason I haven't been posting much here in the last couple months and why I haven't made that much headway at all (Ok, some with Icelandic).

The thing is that I really am in poor health at the moment. My fatigue is crushing. I have low vitamin D levels which do not help. My hormonal treatment is causing me to have awful mood swings that lead to me feeling similar to a couple years ago, albeit less intensely and with a noticeably better coping mechanism. It's murder to concentrate on anything and most days I am just trying to get through at the moment. It's good I can deal with the misery better because the feeling of awful hopelessness means I do very little serious study. Finances are also becoming an issue. I really don't think I can update this log frequently at the moment because there's just nothing for me to say, except "I feel like shit, therefore I did very little by my standards."

So I'm sorry for all the people that read this log. There just isn't much going on at the moment and you'll have to wait for me to recover somewhat before you can see anything more intense going on here. I simply would prefer not to burn the candle out at both ends, because my candle is a small stump.

You can still post in the log though, I'll answer your questions. Just don't expect me to learn 26 languages this year, I will not be able to do it.

Right now there isn't much actual study going on, but I am leaving for the Czech Republic tomorrow for a one-day conference in Brno (away over the weekend and on Friday). I actually know the organizer as she has taught me Czech in the past and we met in Bratislava. Luca Lampariello and Lydia Machová will also be speaking, but Lydia will be doing so in Slovak and most of the conference is in Czech. Which means that I will be practicing my Czech academic skills over the coming weekend.

Speaking of languages, yesterday I went to a trans comic book event and ended up speaking Icelandic to a few people. (I don't really want to say any more than that because what is said at those events stays at those events.) Funny how things end up. I might bring home some Czech material from Brno to read.

So you won't hear from me over the weekend as I will be doing actual language stuff like a pro.

The conference was great, I'll post about it another day. The day after returning my energy levels have been so low that I have managed to um... do groceries when it comes to leaving the house. (I work from home. This doesn't help, but even the 1,5 hours I work today is over the top atm).

See you later when I am not ass dumb and am not trying to avoid the hospital.

It's official now: my mood swings have been absolutely killing me over the past few days and I have only read a few pages in Stjornlaus lukka, which is tough as nails so there isn't much there to understand for me anyway.

Right now I am mostly concentrating on recovering from a big dip in my mood which seems to be a fairly nasty case of depression due to hormonal causes. I haven't been able to work on my Spanish as necessary. I haven't done much at all except be very sad over the past couple days (and trying not to damage my body any further).

I just wanted to post quickly on my achievements of the past two weeks. I've started reading a book called Wolkenfern (Chmurdalia in the original Polish) by Joanna Bator. That's a book I bought because we share first names (Joanna is a common name in Poland). I just got the German translation because that is what I happened to find in a bookstore in the Hague. I'm 75% of the way through because I read loads of it on my Brno trip.

I spoke loads of Czech and listened to more Czech and Slovak on that trip. I mostly handled all daily necessities in Czech and I am pretty independent in the language. I also bought a second-hand copy of Han Kang's the Vegetarian in Czech in an antique bookshop which is conveniently located inside the Brno train station. (I knew it was, because I had visited it last year too). Han Kang is actually a Korean writer, so I should read the book in Korean, but that would be too much to ask.

During the conference I was also asked to give a short interview to Cesky rozhlas (I did so in Czech) on the topic of neurolanguage coaching, which I did with my Czech teacher. She also organized the conference. I told Lýdia I would attend the gathering and I will (as a speaker).

I finished Stjórnlaus lukka. I am finally back on track with my Goodreads challenge because my English trans comic book thing also counts as a book! I still need to find her French Young Adult story (Sophie Labelle is the author).

All in all, I can now confidently state I have B1-B2 Czech and am fully independent in that language.

Wow! Any ideas if it's on their website?
