I've only read one book about Korea, and that was
Korea: The Impossible Country. The title alone should have sent off some warning bells but it didn't. Now that I'm looking through reviews on Goodreads (your post reminded me to go there), I see what I thought about the book in sneaking suspicions was evident to a few others. The author of this book makes Korea seem unnecessarily foreign and magical instead of objectively analyzing it - if that were his purpose. He could have also chose to criticize it, as some people note, bending the book to his will to offer an opinion. My library doesn't have a lot of books about East Asian countries, though, so this was the best pick I had at the time. Do
you have any recommendations for
me?
I can recommend books that seem interesting, but haven't actually read myself. A critical thought has yet to enter my head since the day I was born, so my experience is worth nothing.
This book seems to have the right idea, but reading reviews, they're mixed. So I don't know if you'd like it, seeing as you're more discerning than I.
This book isn't out yet but I read about it a while back and it seemed interesting. It's
supposed to have things we didn't know about Enigma, but covers ground some people might already be familiar with.
I can only recommend books that cover the WWII era because my mom's obsessed with the time period (only when it comes to Europe, though) and the disease has spread to me. We also have books about Aerosmith, because - you guessed - it my mom. I'm just curious to see what you'd recommend because my mind needs to be broadened, hopefully in a way that considers objectivity.
And sorry for the last post I made on your log. I know you say you like to joke and keep things light in real life, but it's hard to read you on the Internet so I was trying to match what I thought was a somber attitude coming from you. Sorry if it offended. I'm glad to hear you're doing better now, even if not in the way we'd been discussing.
