Youpi !

Moi j'aime bien "rigoler."

EN: Okay, back to English for your regular updates. This morning I just spoke for an hour in Icelandic. That's a language I really would love to be good at and as it turns out, my level from two years ago has been mostly conserved. I still speak Icelandic with a heavy Swedish influence (I use words from Swedish in case I don't know something) and grammatically I am inclined to knock off endings because I just don't know the grammar very well. What you get is some kind of unholy mixture which is comprehensible to Icelanders, and I can sort of follow them as long as they go a little easy on me with the speed.

But for a two-year absence from practicing Icelandic, I still think that counts as a solid B1. Words came flooding back after a while, though after an hour I was fried and couldn't handle more.

I am on my way to fluency there though.

The real question is, though: can I keep up momentum to get better, find time to deal with Icelandic and all the while not completely run out of steam due to my personal situation. The hormones are throwing me for a loop: my emotions rollercoaster and I switch from productive to "let's stay in bed for an entire day".

Booked some more Icelandic classes. Let's do this. Strike while the iron is hot and while I need SOMETHING to look forward to, it better be Icelandic.

Ok, so the main focus over the past few days has been Icelandic. I bought myself my first Icelandic novel, (Stjórnlaust lukka) which should help immensely to improve my reading level and fill a few gaps in my vocabulary. I have to say that I am very happy I can finally get back to Icelandic again. Iceland is a wonderful country (I have been there before, years ago) and what I have noticed is that they have a very big community streak as they're such a sparsely populated country.

They've also got a large LGBT scene for the amount of people living on that lava rock, which to me is a great thing. So what I have been doing over the past few days is look up gay and trans resources in Icelandic, which definitely exist. The best part is that it will give me a good amount of vocabulary for stuff I will probably have to talk about for the rest of my life. I have this vocabulary in most of my languages, but particularly the fact I am trans and visibly so means that I will be doomed to answer questions about this my entire life. So it's good to stock up on phrases for this. In a way this probably makes me different because a lot of people go stealth, so my openness throws people for a loop. But that's why I need that vocabulary.

And it's much nicer to learn Icelandic, where I can talk about this more openly, than in Korean, where much of it is quite taboo, especially among the older generations.

(There's a reason I know a lot of the Spanish terms because I have gone to psychologists and sexologists there and done sessions in Spanish).

Not been able to do that much. I've been feeling terribly under the weather lately, so there may be a scarcity of updates. Hormones, gender dysphoria, illness, everything at the same time basically.

I wanted to say 'Get well soon!' but that ignores the implications of what you are actually suffering from. So instead, feel better soon!
