I tried to write something about the weather we've been having recently. It probably looks very unnatural and there are many mistakes. I still don't know how to use interrogative words since there are so many.. or how to say there was x...

암스테르담에 날씨가 이상했어요.
첫가 눈이 많이 왔어요. 정말 시원했어요! 집에 출발하고 싶지 않았어요. 그런데 다행히 밖에 아름다웠어요. 봐 보세요!
(video)

이 예쁘지? 한국가 예쁘기도 했어요?

이번 주는 날씨가 이상기고헸어요... 이 것은 폭풍이에요...저는 싫어요....많이 장소가 손상되다..

I got my writing corrected and scheduled a skype call with a language partner for this Saturday. I wonder how much I will be able to say

I've also looked at the grammar I would like to revise the coming weeks. I will write them down here and work on them when I can.

- really understand the difference between 은, 는, 이, 가
- counting..will probably need a lot of practice for it to finally stick
- 에 and 에서
- 안, -지 않다, 안 하다, 하지 않다
- sound changes and conjugation changes
- 어떻게
- 부터, 에서 and 까지
- future tenses
- 그리고 and 그래서
- 하고 and (이)랑

- days of the week and months, telling time
- 그렇지만 and 그런데
- 도 with verbs

So these topics are what I'll be tested on at the application for the Korean class. I think it should be doable since most of this I have already covered some time ago. Some of these rules are not difficult at all so I can cover multiple rules at a time. I actually want to revise more rules I know but I think I should focus on these first and revise the rest later on.

I have a bunch of essays to write and will start new classes, an internship and also a part-time job soon so I hope I'll have enough time to do everything I want to.

I have been practicing some of the grammar I talked about previously. Today I also had a Skype call with a Korean girl. We talked for 1,5 hours switching between Korean and English. Both of us had prepared a topic to briefly talk about. After this we occasionally asked questions.

My biggest problem was a lack of vocabulary and not enough knowledge of grammar. So sometimes I had to talk in English to get my point across. The sentences I want to make are still too complex. I hope talking in Korean more often will really fossilize the passive knowledge I have now.
I learned about twenty new words as well as the expression: 나도 나이를 먹었어요. I think this is a very funny expression, ''to eat one's age''. For tonight, I will review the words I have learned and take a look at some grammar patterns again. Hopefully I will be able to turn some of them into active knowledge. I also want to do one TTMIK Beginner Iyagi.

It means: I have got older too/became older too.

It's a funny way of saying it, right?

I haven't had a lot of time this week but I listened to the 3rd iyagi, read some pages of the shoemaker and the elves in Korean and found the Korea version of Harry Potter. I want to try reading this sme day in the future. I will try to finish the fairy tale first though lol.

I also had my second skype conversation. It didn't go very well this time because i stayed at relatives all week so couldn't prepare enough. And I also felt very conscious of any family members listening in.

This week I am starting my studies and a new internship again. I'm not sure if I will have enough time to do everything I want. My studies will take up at least 40 hrs a week. It's gonna be a tight fit.

I also think I need to find some other way to turn my knowledge into productive knowledge. The last two weeks I learned around 100 words and revised some grammar but using them actively is still a problem to me..maybe I need to find some other method or I just need more time.

I wonder how long it takes other people to turn knowledge into productive knowledge and how they do it.

Soooo...I am starting to think it won't be possible to reach all my goals before mid-March. I have started studying at uni again and there's no way I will have enough time to do an Iyagi, language exchange, studying vocab and grammar each week at the pace I want.. This week the only thing I did was preparing for language exchange...
Guess I'll need to adjust my planning because otherwise learning anything will take ages. So this week: goals not met :(

I've been continuing my language exchanges and have actually found some other people to practice with too! And one of them is a guy so I think this will be very usefull. I'm planning on sort of recycling the things I talk about so I get to use newly learned vocab more often. Let's see how it goes.
The way I do my exchange is that I type out what I want to say beforehand so I won't get stuck looking for words. Then I try to study those words. And when the exchange takes place I actually get to use them. Of course, since I have a language partner I just let the conversation flow naturally and don't get to use all I prepared but it definitely helps. I've also figured out that I seem to use the 아/어-서, -면 patterns a lot, besides also using 요 very often. I think I need to force myself to use other grammatical structures more often.

I'm sort of having a short break now from uni, filled with papers but no lectures or internship, so I'll try tackling an iyagi again this week and try to do some revising again.

Umm...Here are some corrections to aid your studying.

Christi wrote:이번 달는 한국어를 공부만 할 거예요  Just kidding.

이번달에는 한국어만 공부를 할거예요.
~에 disappeared in the first sentence but I think it's just a mistake :D

++

이번달엔 한국어만 공부를 할거예요.
이번달엔 한국어만 공부할거예요.

에는 shortened to 엔 in spoken language frequently.
Koreans tend to omit a lot of words in their spoken language. ~를 is also one of them.

Christi wrote:저는 운공을 하는 것보다 자는 것을 더 좋아해요.

저는 운동을 하는 것보다 자는 것을 더 좋아해요.
Perfect sentence, also it can be used in spoken language without any problem.

++

저는 운동보다 자는 것을 더 좋아해요.
'~을 하는 것' could be omitted because it appeared in later again.

저는 운동보다 자는게 더 좋아요.
The most colloquial form of this sentence with ~에요 ending.

암스테르담의 날씨가 이상했어요.
집에서(or 집으로?) 출발하고 싶지 않았어요. 그런데 다행히도 밖은 아름다웠어요. 보세요! (or 보실래요?)

이번 주에는 날씨가 이상하기도(?) 했어요.

이 것은 폭풍이에요. 저는 싫어요. 장소가 많이 손상되다.
To make the last sentence more clearly : Things are not clear in this sentence that which thing you didn't liked.
이 것은 폭풍이에요. 저는 장소가 많이 손상되는 것이 싫어요.
이 것은 폭풍이에요. 저는 이 날씨가 싫어요. 장소가 많이 손상되었기 때문이에요.

피해 would be a better word for describe damage by weather in general.
but I'm not certain about what means 장소 - right word but not certain about this usage, so I just left it like now.
Perhaps 곳 would be used more frequently...

It's just a thought, I can't recall natural Korean expression for 장소가 많이 손상되다. when I saw that sentence first time
I can feel that my native language getting rusty time after time! :|
Thankfully, In Italki, there are many Koreans who are better than me for knowledge of Korean grammar and corrections.
Usually, they are only focus to correct Korean writings in there, not language exchange.
