Allora vi do la merda".

French:

I would like to take a minute to express my happy surprise in regards to a TV series: Guyane. My one rule for movies and tv series is that I don't watch it if it takes place in the countryside, jungle, or by a port. I don't know why but that's what it is. However, Guyane is a pleasant experience that, with muffled sound and mumbled dialogue, is helping me more with comprehension than usual by making me work for it. Besides that, the series is pretty damn good. It's about gold exploitation in French Guinea with a bunch of shootouts, backstabbing, and scheming. Olivier Rabourdin and the guy who plays Tomasinho kill it. I'm really glad I finally gave it a shot. I have a few more episodes to go.

Italian:

I finished two series: La mafia uccide solo d'estate and La porta rossa. The former is a fantastic dramedy that is better than the movie (just like most Italian series made after their movie counterparts) and the latter is like a sort of neo noir about a cop who gets killed and stays on Earth as a ghost. The actors in both are fantastic.

German:

Season 3 of Pastewka plus I'm starting Stromberg. My comprehension is going great, my reading is great. I'm happy all around with how my German is progressing but I need to start watching movies soon.

Russian:

More Goosebumps/Sherlock Holmes. Freuds method episode 7. My reading is progressing slowly and I'm able to pick out a few more words in speech but I still have a long way to go.

French:

Rereading Les Miserables. Oh wait Chateaubriand's Les memoires d'Outre Tombe, his incredible autobiogra- Oh, is that Corneille who wrote those works on Cid, Horace, an- Woah I haven't read Balzac or Maupassant in AGES! Is The Three Musketeers as good as I remember? (This is what it's like for me picking out a book to read in French for the past few years now). Atleast I can cross off Stendhal, Zola, Flaubert, and Proust.

Odysseus series on deck

Italian:

Reading the Aeneid in italiano.

Watching 1992 tomorrow

Spanish:

Watched an episode of Fabulosas Flores and it was pretty darn funny. Because it's a Netflix production (I think?) they probably tuned down the Chilean accent a whole lot.

German:

Ah, the real fun.

Rereading Goethe's works + Schiller. Starting off with Werther, then some Schiller, then Faust

Almost finished season one of Stromberg. I'll probably get to the third before I start Pastewka again so I can time them to end at the same time.

Russian:

..is frustrating but I love it.

Dutch:

Reading Keltische Mythen en Legenden. My first official impression of Dutch in the wild and not in a coursebook is that it's like German's half brother. A lot of similarities, but also a fair share of differences. I thought similarly in said coursebooks but thought it would purposely be like that.

The only series I found subs for so far are Beau Sejour and two seasons of Penoza so I'll start them this weekend. I know one is Flemish but still.

Swedish:

August Strindberg plays. Might reread Miss Julie or something. Will watch an episode or two of Anno 1790 w/ English subs also

Danish:

HC Andersen fairy tales. Going slow but it's expected. I think I like Danish more than Swedish.

French:

Series:

Falco season 3 - Two episodes
Ainsi soient-ils - all finished
Une chance de trop - finished

Film:
Chase by Desire (I can't find the French name)

Books:

L'europe est-elle nee au moyen age - Jacques Le Goff - Finished
Grandeur des romains et decadence - Montesquieu - In progress
Illusions perdues - Balzac - On deck

I definitely watched more movies/tv than that but I forgot what they were. Looking at my last post I was going for Odysseus, but then I watched an episode of Ainsi soient-ils to open up the second season then I got sucked in. I need to get back to that.

Spanish:

Series:

Fabulosas flores - finished
Velvet - watched two episodes and got bored

Books:

Historia de la filosofia by Julian Marias - In progress

German:

Series:

Stromberg - season 3 - finished
Pastewka - season 4 - halfway

Books:

Undine by La Mouque I think? - finished
Deciding what to read next

Russian:

Series:

Freud's Method - episode 8 finished (putting on hold until I get better at reading)

Books:

Two Goosebumps books - finished
Franz Kafka short story - finished. Don't remember the title or what it was about anyway
Boris Akunin - Turkish Gambit L/R - In progress

I'm definitely going to L/R Akunin detective novels until I get a better feel for Russian. Only then will I go back to series

From now on I'm only focusing on French, Spanish, German, and Russian. I let wanderlust get too crazy. I'm ditching Italian for the moment for personal reasons and bad experiences. My motivation has been completely shot from it.

What I'm going to do is watch more TV and movies in French, Spanish, and German rather than read as much. I want to fill in comprehension gaps in the first two and get a better comprehension in the latter. I think my French is getting close to native level listening with Spanish lagging behind. Sometimes my brain can't decipher a sentence here and there which is frustrating and I still miss the occasional word even if I know it. My goal for Russian before Autumn is to be able to listen to the news without any problems.

I'm currently watching a series on the Greek myths. I'm watching it on the Arte.tv website for access to french subtitles, but there are french (Les grandes mythes) and german (die grossen mythen) language versions available on YouTube without subtitles.

That sounds right up my alley. Are they dubbed or are they filmed in their respective languages like Apocalypse was with English and French?

If you're into Greek and Roman TV, I have two series for you: Odysseus http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2141869/ and Peplum http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4119154/ The first one is a drama and the second a comedy. I haven't seen either yet and I don't know where to get them without downloading, but they look promising. And both in French.

French made (subs only available with the french version) BUT narrated, so audio is 100% french , or 100% german. The video is a mixture of art (scuptures/paintings) and animation. I like it! :-)
