Do you read german eBooks, with dictionary support?tastyonions wrote:Yeah, my German is still too crappy for extensive reading to be a worthwhile use of my time.
More "study" it is, then.
One and a half years and still feels like I'm nowhere. Ugh.

No, books are definitely too advanced. I don't enjoy consulting a dictionary once or twice every sentence. Mostly I try to read news articles, oscillating between looking up every unknown word (and despairing because it's so fricking slow) and trying to guess the meaning of words I don't know (and despairing because once the article gets past the easier introductory bits I start stumbling around half-blind).
English helps with German about as much as French helps with Russian.
Okay, I exaggerated there. A bit.

Okay, enough whining! Time to get back to work. Just listened to an interview about rising ocean levels and climate change from Deutschlandfunk: link
Maybe the list of new words I made can be useful to someone with a level similar to mine:
der Meeresspiegel: sea level
vorhanden: available
die Messreihe: series of measurements
der Befund: finding
der Pegel: level
die Beschleunigung: acceleration
betragen: to account for
demnach: so, thus
besiedelt: populated, settled
die Auslegung: interpretation
zunächst mal: to begin with
ungebremst: unchecked, unbridled
landen: to land, end up
auf die Bremse treten: to step on the brakes
das Abkommen: convention, agreement
der Verlauf: course, progression
zu Stande kommen: to come about
derzeit: currently
schmelzen: to melt
allmählich: gradual
nachweisbar: provable, verifiable
auflaufen: to accrue, to rise
umsetzen: to implement
verursachen: to cause
Took me probably twenty minutes to do, no looking at the transcript.

My brainpower and patience are too low for anything harder than Romance languages.

Ja, ja, du hast völlig recht. Zuallererst muss ich lernen, geduldiger zu sein.

Acabo de dar-me conta de que nunca tenho escrito nada na lingua neste fórum.

Die Vermieterin hat mir gesagt, dass ich die Beule durchbohren soll. Ok, gesagt, getan. Aber es tropft immer noch.
