Hvala!

I've decided to keep track of what I'm consuming in Romanian, just to stay on course. I've set some goals for 2016 such as: read 700 newspaper articles, listen to 150 podcasts, watch a total of 200 TV show episodes, but the rest will be just logging my progress with various courses, books, and other stuff that I'll add latter.

Saw this layout in Cavesa's log, liked it, modified it a bit.

I've added this truckload of progress bars to the first post in this thread and I will be updating it there.

ROMANIAN:

Courses & Textbooks:
Assimil: 73 / 101
Colloquial: 6 / 20
Limba care ne unește I: 3 / 40
Limba care ne unește II: 0 / 20
Limba care ne unește III: 0 / 15

Reading:
Newspaper articles: 41 / 700
Robinson Crusoe: 167 / 320
Îngeri și Demoni: 15 / 137
Frăția Inelului - I: 1 / 12
Cei trei mușchetari: 4 / 36

TV Shows:
Nimeni nu-i perfect - SE1: 7 / 64
Trăsniții - SE1: 1 / 15

Listening :
Various Podcasts: 4 / 150

The first and last time I listened to Romanian was when Ceauşescu was toppled. Other than that, you sound convincing.

Excellent!!! The only thing I noticed is that you pronounced the final i in viziuni, which you should not.

Good, convincing was exactly what I was going for.

Thanks. I noticed it right away, but I didn't want to make another recording. That "silent?" or "palatalized" /i/ is a bit tricky sometimes, especially with verbs. I sometimes tend to pronounce it fully because I think I won't be understood. For example "fumez" vs "fumezi", "lucrez" vs lucrezi", "mor" vs "mori" etc. The second minor problem I had was that I tended to pronounce "să" as "sa" and "că" as "ca" when I read. I'm guessing it's just interference from all the different variations of the Latin script that I know, because a part of my brain just wouldn't accept the fact that "ă" is not "a". It's like it totally ignores the diacritical mark. A nice little trick that helped me with this is just imagining that "ă" isn't even written there so I just read it as "s" and "k".

Hehe. Just when I wanted to get away from explicit grammar study and textbooks, watch a cartoon and relax, this happens. Started watching the first episode of "The Legend of Tarzan" and the following exchange occurs:

Cheeta: Am uitat. Cine ajută la cine?
Jane: Se zice "pe". Cine ajută "pe" cine.

I also remember a scene from a TV show called "Umbre", where a mobster's son corrects his main goon.

I like these out of the blue grammar lessons because I don't think I'll ever forget 'em.

Just finished watching a 5 hour long poker tournament with Italian commentary, and about 4 hours of cartoons and TV shows in Romanian.

Sometimes I wonder if writing in detail about what I'm doing language-wise is a waste of time. I seriously doubt I have something interesting and innovative to offer to this community, so I'll probably just stick to updating the progress bars in the first post of this log and I'll write when there's something worth mentioning, or just drop a couple of sentences like now.

Still at it.

I've been watching cartoons and following the news in Romanian and I've also been listening to a lot of Spanish, Neapolitan and French music.

Heard the word "pride" in 4 Romance languages in the past couple of days without actively seeking it out: orgoliu, orgollo, orgueil, orgoglio.
What could this possibly mean?

Was also able to understand a couple of verbs in Italian thanks to Romanian.
