I like the way this test works better. I like the fake words, the randomness, the penalty for guessing. I got 38%.

The flaw is how to evaluate the results. I don't know what "un livello di competenza medio-basso" signifies, other than "needs work".

Also, what is 38%? 38% of what? Of all Italian words? That doesn't sound right.

Over 60 percent of all English words have Greek or Latin roots. Take the test several times.

The Dutch test. My answers were based on English + German cognates.

Jouw resultaat

Your result
On the basis of your results, we estimate you know 89% of the English words.

You said yes to 89% of the existing words.

You said yes to 0% of the nonwords.

This gives you a corrected score of 89% - 0% = 89%.

I took this last one twice hoping to beat you but still only got 84%.. . I'ml afraid to take one of these quizzes in French if I can't even do well on my mother tongue. Some of those non words really should have been words :-p

But there's no sense crying over every mistake. You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

Very addictive and good design. I am concerned that they might not have a built-in provision for thwarting card counters though. I am tempted to take them up on the offer to try it 10 times and take an average since it appears my scores were trending upwards more than should be explainable in stochastic terms. My first technique was downright atrocious and the results not much better. At 4 AM local time, I am stopping now that I finally landed at just over 80% in my L2. If I am counting right, it took four attempts. In any event, I would be kicked out of Vegas in no time flat. Even if I weren't counting cards, I mulled about long enough to make the test-givers think I was.

It would not be appropriate for me to "congratulate" you but 84% is a very high score. Try the Italian test.

I got 77% on the Italian test. As expected, I'm not yet at Reineke's level. :)

90% on the English test.

I typed in "vocabulaire.ugent.be" and was disappointed that it didn't exist.

In order to be able to "count the cards" you should be able to recognize a sufficient number of real words. If you can, please try the Italian test. I would like to gage the cognate effect (English + Spanish).
