Over on the TY Complete Old English holiday mini-challenge, you'd see how miserably I did on the challenge! I was supposed to get to lesson 10 by now, and I only made it through 5. I seriously overestimated the amount of time I would have had to study over the holidays. We had all our kids plus one son's girlfriend over the holidays, so 5 kids (16-25, so not all kids!) in a home which usually only has 1 plus mom and dad! But that's what I love about the holidays, having all the noise back in the house. Can't wait to see them all again. I missed them the minute they left. Anyway, I'll definitely finish this book later. Maybe after my BCS DLPT & OPI next fall I'll go back to Old English.

In other news, today started the 61-a Esperanto Sumoo. This time I'm reading Kredu Min, Sinjorino. So far it's great. I started yesterday. I'm aiming to finish the whole book this time, 276 pages, 43 chapters, so 3 chapters a day over 15 days with some room for fudging. Nice to be reading Esperanto again.

Just bought a month of Kartina TV for my Russian. So much fun going through all the channels I used to watch. But so many more channels than I remember: over 150! Found my old favorites Ворононы and Магаззино.

I will also restart watching The Sniffer on Netflix, especially when I realized that they also have Russian subtitles! All this to start once the Esperanto Sumoo is over in 14 days.

I'm digging this Kartina TV. I've been watching it when I should be reading Esperanto for the Sumoo! No worries, I'm about 200 pages into Kredu min, sinjorino and on target to finish the book by Sunday. Starting Monday I'll be hitting Russian hard, and now that I have Kartina, need to come up with a plan.

I pulled a bunch of my books up out of the basement. I think I'll probably L-R a book to/from work on the train. I've got The Martian, The Hunger Games, and American Gods all in Russian audio. And I have all three in Russian for Kindle. I'll probably go for the easiest level first, meaning The Hunger Games.

I'll make my Kartina TV more official, probably 3-5x per week in the evenings or where I can fit it in. My wife likes Орел и решка as well, so we can watch that together. But she is over Ворононы, so I'll sneak that in while she's not around.

I love GLOSS, so I'll do that at work. My boss gives me up to 3 hours per week to work on language, so I'll take advantage of it. Last year I did a bunch of the 2/2+ level listening and reading lessons there. I think this year I'll start hacking away at the 2+/3 level lessons.

All of this plan may change come March when start my one-on-one.

Onward and upward to good OPI/DLPT scores this year!

Does it also means the two sides of a coin in Polish?

Started back to Russian on Sunday, as I finished my Esperanto Sumoo read, Kredu min, Sinjorino, on Saturday. For Sunday all I did was decide on my grammar text: Лексика и словообразование, part of the wonderful Русский язык как иностранный series by Флинта/Наука. There are 9 chapters covering word-formation groups like играть, верить, or гадать. I started on the играть chapter on Sunday.

Then Monday morning I started my L-R of Голодные игры (Hunger Games), L-Ring on the train to/from work. Managed to get through chapter one during my commute. I use the Speater app, so in the morning I slowed it down to 0.8 of full speed, but in the afternoon changed it to 0.9 as 0.8 was too slow. I'm getting a great deal of it, but a lot is through context and previous knowledge, having read all 3 books in English many years ago. Monday night I continued through the играть chapter. Had no time at work on Monday to do any GLOSS.

Tuesday morning I remembered that I have Pimsleur Russian on my iPhone so I did lesson 6 in Pimsleur Russian III to the train both ways. Then on the train I finished chapter 2 and started chapter 3 of my L-R. Got home late so no time for my grammar text.

Wednesday I was traveling, but still managed to finish the long chapter 3 of Hunger Games and listen to some Pimsleur III.

Thursday I was home by the afternoon. I did a couple pages in my grammar text and then in the evening watched аn episode of Воронины. Well, half an episode. Then my wife came back from a walk and we switched to Law & Order!

Friday listened to Pimsleur unit 10 (my iPhone progresses through all the evens then odds units for some reason) and finished it. Finished chapter 4 of Hunger Games and started ch 5 on the train.

Saturday I had to stick by the computer as my favorite marathon swim, Swim the Suck, opened registration at noon, and it fills up in minutes. I got in! My wife and daughter were gone, so I watched episodes 2 & 3, season 1, of The Sniffer (Нюхач). So weird, and so much fun. I also listened to Pimsleur unit 12 while out walking.

Sunday Russian study is pretty much in the bag seeing how Super Bowl starts soon. I lost (almost) all interest in football back in the early 1980s when the Houston Oilers failed to make it to the Super Bowl for the second time. Seriously, on "jersey day" at work, I wear Earl Campbell's jersey.

But every year I try to watch the Super Bowl. It is the contest between the two best teams, theoretically. And last year, living in Boston, it was kinda special to watch the home team. This year I'll be rooting for the Kansas City Chiefs solely because a high school friend of mine played for them years ago.

Russian-wise, I finished the играть chapter in Лексика и словообразование. Next up is the думать chapter, which I'll start tomorrow. Then I found a nice podcast entitled Что это было in which they're discussing the young Israeli lady whom Putin just released and sent back to Israel. Only listened to about half of that, and had to listen to it at 0.8 speed as the two Russian women spoke so fast!

Finished the Что это было podcast today. Also finished ch 5 of Hunger Games, and thanks to a broken down train down my train's line and the delay it gave our trip, I started/finished ch 6 also. It's going great. Tonight I'll try to start the думать chapter in my grammar book but might not get a chance. We'll see.

Listened to another podcast from the Что это было, this time about the coronavirus. It was short (12min). Also finished ch 7 of Hunger Games.

Currently watching an episode of Castle in Russian. Tried The Office, but they leave the English in there, which distracts me. For Castle, no English soundtrack!

And Russian Survivor on ТВ3! Looks like the show is titled Последний герой. And it's a new season which starts on 8 Feb! I will be looking to watch that this weekend! (Saturday at 19.00, and I think Kartina TV makes the times match with whatever time zone you're in. If I'm wrong that's ok as you can go back up to a week to watch past episodes.)

Anyway, a good Russian day!
