Well, shit, that turned out better than I thought. I wasn't quite sure I'd be able to hit the 2+ in Listening. But, alas, I earned a 2+ on both Reading and Listening! So excited.
I was so unsure of my DLPT that I didn't even schedule myself for the OPI. I don't get paid the language bonus unless I have a 2+/2+ and a 2 on the OPI. It's such a pain in the butt to schedule an OPI, and since I assumed the best I'd do would be 2L/2+R, I didn't bother to schedule the OPI.
But things changed today! So, tomorrow at work I'll try to get an OPI sked quickly, like for the last week of the month. Oy.
So, for the Polyglot Fitness Challenge, I'm part way there for Language goal #2: Russian 2+/2+/2. We shall see!
Between today and whenever the OPI is I'll work on current events, both from Russian press and Anglophone press. I'll also go through Pimsleur as it covers many of the basic things that come up at the beginning of an OPI: directions; buying things in shops; introducing people, those sorts of things. Been so long since I've spoken it.
Interestingly, after the DLPT I went to Walden Pond for a swim. After I got back to the car and changed, I heard a grandfather speaking with his grandkids in Russian, so I took that opportunity to speak some Russian. I think I shocked the kids (both about 4 or 5) and surprised the grandpop. Nice to speak the language again.

Found out today my OPI will be on Monday. Shit. Better cram this weekend!
Frankly, I'll be happy to move on to Italian after Monday. One of my co-workers is pretty good at Italian (2+/2+) and I tried some Italian with him today...boy, I'm out of practice.

Where's that puke smiley? My God, I suck. Been too long since I've spoken Russian! 45 minutes of me sucking. We'll see in a few weeks how she scored me.
In other news, I can start back on Italian! I've missed it, and class begins one week from tomorrow. Time to cram!

I’m sure you did better than you think. And good on you for getting back on the Russian bandwagon after all that. You’ve already won.

Re: So many eels, only one hovercraft. IronMike's 2019 log (EO, IT, RU)
Wow! How the hell did I get that 2 in Reading on the Italian DLPT in May? I've forgotten so damn much! I picked up the book of stories I had bought after May with the intent on reading them during this Fall course, and boy oh boy, first paragraph I'm totally lost. I think I'll have to wait till after the first few weeks of class.
In other news, it is fun to go through the course books at speed. The Italian is coming back. Certainly better than January when I was starting brand new!

Italian starts Tuesday night! I can't freaking wait. Oy!
In Polyglot Fitness news, the outdoor pool season ended this weekend. Got a good 2-mile swim in on Friday and mid-way this huge, old lady starts floating by me.
Yep, that's the USS Constitution. One of two three-masted wooden warships still in service in the US (the US Coast Guard Cutter Eagle is the other) and the world's oldest commissioned naval vessel, launched in 1797, and still in service, with full US Navy crew. This is the second time I've seen her float by me while swimming. This time I jumped out and grabbed the phone.

Perhaps America's oldest commissioned naval vessel, but the worldwide victory for that title goes to, well the Victory...

Uh, no. Commissioned means still in service. The Victory is

Edit: Competing info out there. I think I found the issue. The Constitution is the oldest commissioned warship still afloat. The Victory is, apparently, still commissioned but since 1922 has been a museum ship in dry dock.
