It's time for an Esperanto update! Do ni eku!

Hodiaŭ (aŭ, antaŭ 2 horoj) mi finis mian legadon de 'Hari Potter (kiun nomon mi jam skribis en diversaj manieroj ) kaj la ŝtono de la saĝuloj' kaj ankaŭ mian sumo-an celon. Temis pri la legado de kaj la libro pri la esperanta gramatiko kaj Hari Potter antaŭ ol la fino de la Janŭara sumoo (hodiaŭ).

Kvankam ĉi tiuj du libroj ne estis aparte longaj, por ulo kiel mi, kiu neniam legis tiom multe en Esperanto, estis bona defio kaj mi certe sentas ke mia rego de la lingvo pliboniĝis dum la legado.

Sed kion mi faru nun? Mi intencas rikomenci mian studadon de la hispana lingvo en februaro kaj emas legi aŭ hispanan aŭ anglan libro baldaŭ sed mi ne volas forlasi Esperanton... Mi certe daŭros ĉiutagan studadon de la lingvo ĉe Duolingo sed mi ne certas se tiu sufiĉos

Yeah, I don't feel like writing a translation for all that. TLDR; I finished reading HP in Esperanto and completed the challenge I set myself, but I'm worried about abandoning the language when I go all out on Spanish in February.

Congratulations, Spoon! ¡Enhorabuena! Leer el primer libro en un idioma siempre es algo que me gusta. Te da un verdadero sentido de logro. No tienes que abandonar el idioma por completo mientras te estás concentrando en el español.

Un sitio que uso regularmente (con portugués) es GlobalVoices.org. Dentro de GlobalVoices, hay casi 40 idiomas, y incluye el esperanto (y italiano también). Hay artículos interesantes que pasan a veces desapercibidos como este artículo escrito en el esperanto- Venezuela filmo kandidata al Oskar-premio parolas indiĝenan lingvon que es una traducción del español- La candidata de Venezuela a los Oscar habla un idioma indígena. Hay bastantes artículos disponibles en el archivo del esperanto y casi todos tienen traducciones españolas.

I can totally sympathize with trying to move out your parents' place: I moved back for two years after college, and I can safely say that it was the worst period of my life. I had an opportunity to rent my own apartment for the first time without roommates, and it is beautiful. Do move out as soon as you can.

I have a question for you: have you tried learning two Romance languages at the same time, or have you always staggered them? I'm wondering how hard it would be to study French and Italian at the same time.

Gracias iguanamon, de verdad. Tienes razón, lo sé. Lo que me cuesta es darles tiempo a todos y cada uno de mis idiomas durante un tiempo prolongado.

No, I can't say I have. I had a strong base in Spanish before I started incorporating other languages here and there. I'm sure there have been discussions about that topic on this forum before though so you'll find the answer somewhere. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Speaking of moving out, things are moving quickly than I anticipated. I have already chosen a flat and got the ball rolling on the paperwork side of things. Now I just need to figure out when I'm moving and pack up all my stuff.

Thanks! Yeah, I'm pretty happy about it. It'll take me some time to get myself all organised and used to having so much freedom, of course, but once I'm settled in and over all that, I hope to start making real progress in all aspects of my life again.

The more eagle-eyed of you may have noticed that I have removed the Super Challenge progress bars from my signature. This means that (yes, you guessed it) I have given up on yet another challenge.

What bothered me about the SC was that I couldn't include the many youtube videos that make up the majority of my input (particularly for Italian). This, and the fact that I was bad at logging everything in my excel spreadsheet, meant that my totals were way off and that bothered me. Besides, the whole SC thing went against my new 'quality rather than quantity' philosophy so it had to go

Today, I finished reading La nieve interminable, a Spanish translation of the Galician original by Agustín Fernández Paz.

I actually had the opportunity to listen to a lecture by this author during the Galician language and culture course I took while living in Santiago de Compostela, and received, along with the other students, an exclusive short story of his which I have yet to read.

This particular book was one of the two I hastily bought in Lanzarote while holidaying there last year. As with the other book, by Laura Gallego, I only picked it up because I recognised the author and found the premise vaguely interesting.

As luck would have it, I enjoyed reading them both, and I actually gave La nieve interminable 4 stars on goodreads (where I also wrote a short review in Spanish if anyone is interested).

The story centres around a group of writers who go hole up in an old house in the Galician countryside to come up with ideas for a horror film. A snowstorm leaves them stuck in the house for longer than expected, so one night they decide to each write a story to then share with the group. The retelling of these stories makes up the majority of the book, but there is also an overarching plot.

Although this isn't a book aimed at adults (the Spanish call it juvenil so it would probably be a teen/young adult read in English) the stories themselves were spooky enough - especially the last one - so that kept me reading. It was quite an easy read too, so I think it would be appropriate for those with an intermediate level of Spanish.

My next book in Spanish will be El beso de la mujer araña by Manuel Puig, which I heard about while in my translation class at uni and have wanted to read since. Puig was Argentinian, so the two prisoners in his novel, Molina and Valentín, use my favourite kind of non-Castilian Spanish which I am already loving.
